SAMBA digest 2047
Thanks Andy !
Unfortunately the situation is unchanged. Interesting is that sometime
Win98 can see the correct shares but only the first time when is
accessing Samba and then... lost.
I'm still trying . Can someone tell me how to find what values those %..
parameters take when Samba is acessed ?

vesamenu.c32 + include + CLI woes
Hi all,
In June 2007 Jerry Nelson started a thread on this mailing list about a problem he was seeing. The thread was http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2007-June/008673.html
After several hours of searching through the list, I am still convinced that his problem was never solved and is very valid. I recently moved from the old syslinux config options model (all labels in 1 default config file)

Wastebasket/Recycle bin?
Am I missing something here?
Unless I am wrong, the "Recycle Bin" works only on
LOCAL drives.
I have not seen any options for network drives on any
of my 95, 98 or NT clients, or NT servers. Somebody
correct me if I am wrong, and tell me how to enable it.
Like Jonathan Kelly, I mirror network drives at night to
a backup server which writes them to tape during the
day. The backup

Problem mapping drive names on Win95
Hi,
in my Office, I'm trying to replace a Novell-server by a Linux-server.
On the Novell-server, there is the SYS: volume. On this volume
is a directory named DriveT. I did a map on it, so this SYS:DriveT was
used as T: . If you link Excel sheets, which are stored on T:,
to Word documents, Word unfortunately saves the UNC path,
which is \\SERVER1\SYS\DRIVET instead of T:
On my new Samba

Those #"&/! comments
I promised R-core write-up of my understanding of the comment
placement nastiness, but I might as well increase the scope to
R-devel:
(R moves, mangles, or deletes comments in mysterious ways -- see for
instance PR#118)
One basic issue is that any R parse tree can have 0, 1, or more
textual representations. Examples
quote(x) # one, presumably...
substitute(+x,x=list(1:2)) #

Re: ZFS: creating a pool in a created zfs does not work, only when using the whole zfs-pool.
Thank you for your reply.
I have managed to create a virtual machine on my ZFS-filesystem using
virt-install:-) It seems to me that my version of libvirt (Ubuntu 17.04)
has problems enumerating the devices when "virsh vol-list“ is used. The
volumes are available for virt-install but not thru virsh or virt-manager.
As to when the volumes disappear in virsh vol-list - I have no idea. I’m

how to include 'NA's in xtabs?
Hello!
I have a dataset with NA's in some variables (factors), for example:
$ P67 : Factor w/ 2 levels "-","+": NA 2 1 NA NA 2 1 1 2 NA ...
I need to use 'xtabs' like
xtabs(~x$P67)
It works well and produces something like this:
x$P67
- +
779 1318
but i want to compute NA's too, like this:
x$P67
- + NA
779 1318 137

Trouble with Samba and Dos-apps on Win 95
Hi,
last weekend, I removed my old Novell-Server and replaced it by a
Linux-server,
running kernel 2.2.5 and Samba 2.0.3 (Suse-Linux 6.1). Almost everything
works fine, but there are 3 Dos-based applications, that have a strange
problem. These applications run in a Win 95 Dos-box. They are all written
by the same company. There are selection boxes, e.g. a printer driver
selection box, which do

samba-tool crashes if include = /patch/to/%U.conf in smb.conf
Hi,
Samba4 (4.1.9) on Ubuntu 12.04 here (seen same behavior on 4.1.6 on
Ubuntu 14.04).
I've encountered an annoying bug with samba-tool, some exceptions aren't
caught causing the tool to crash if it finds something it doesn't like
in the smb.conf.
I have a specific line in my conf : "include = /etc/samba/%U.smb.conf ",
it's useful for applying specific samba

SAMBA and NFS
Can samba connect to an NFS share and then re-export that share so my
windows XP users can connect to it? Basically I have a NFS share that all
of my windows XP users need read-only access to. The goal of this project
is to replace an old MS Gateway Services for Novell server (using IPX) with
something that can do the same thing but over IP. I am pretty sure Novell
and AD can share files

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using
DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on
the network which was set up for several reasons.
I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't
generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server,
which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since
the names are all entered statically. We have

Password authentication via NT server on 1.9.18p5
I have two Caldera Linux Intel boxes running as Samba
servers (1.9.18p8) using an NT server (SP3) for user
authentication and have no problems.
I cannot get a new box to work this way.
The new machine is a DEC Alpha running Red Hat 5.1
with Samba 1.9.18p5 (pre-installed).
The smb.conf file contains (among other things):
encrypt passwords = yes
security = server
password server = XYZ

R-1.0.0 install: Error "Substitution loop..."
Dear All
First off, let me just add my thanks to all the people involved in the
production of R-1.0.0... Well Done!!
I'm getting an error installing R-1.0.0 on RedHat 5.2, perl 5.004_04. It
did not occur under Solaris 2.6 with perl 5.004_01.
During install of the base package (and akima, bootstrap, etc) it gets to the
point of building the help pages and it gives this error:
