Readonly AND Writable share
Hi,
first of all Thanks for any help.
I would like to share with SAMBA a Unix path to Windows clients.
The problem i have is this:
I want that this share would be READONLY for someone (or somewhat TCP/IP address) and
READABLE/WRITABLE for someone else (even if throught a user/passwd authentication).
I'm using Samba 2.2.6 and Wnt/W2k clients.
I'm trying to setup my environment fixing

banners
Can someone tell me how to configure my unix printers so that no banner page is
printed at the beginning of a print job?
I have gotten the printing to work, but I want to stop the banner page. What
file do I change to configure that?

SMBD Runs as root
Since loading 2.0.x of Samba, the SMBD process is always ran as "root" when
users connect. I just compiled Samba 2.0.3 on a AIX 4.2 to fix it
according to the enhancement document. SMBD is still running as "root" on
2.0.3. Does anybody have a work around for this.

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with
JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a
time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the
samba client does not get an error message, but
the job gets lost. :( I would like the print
jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an
active print job or when the printer is off-line.
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd.

Samba causing problems with NT tools
Samba is causing a couple huge problems for the NT admins here since we
switched a bunch of machines to security=server and started running nmbd.
We're running Samba 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 on a mix of Solaris, HP-UX, and OSF1
machines.
One, selecting a Samba server in Server Manager, then selecting Computer/
Services causes Server Manager to crash ("An application error has

Glusterfs 2.0 hangs on high load
Hello!
After upgrade to version 2.0, now using 2.0.1, I'm experiencing problems
with glusterfs stability.
I'm running 2 node setup with cliet side afr, and glusterfsd also is
running on same servers. Time to time glusterfs just hangs, i can
reproduce this running iozone benchmarking tool. I'm using patched
Fuse, but same result is with unpatched.

I have samba 3 beta2 as PDC.
Now I need to make all mebers of the unix grop "users" local admins on
their Windows systems, because Wordperferct 8 doesn't run otherwise.
As the "domain admin group" setting from smb.conf doen't exist anymore,
I don't know, how to do the group mapping correctly. Could someone
explain the steps to do it?

Visual C++ fails to recognize changed file
We're having a problem that is the reverse of prblems that others
have had: if we have a file open in Visual C++, and change it from
another editor (either on the PC or on Unix), Visual C++ does not
notice that it has been changed and ignores the file when it does a
make. If the file is on a local drive, everything works fine.

Compiling on AIX3.2.5
I have tried to compile 2.0.4b and 2.0.5a on AIX3.2.5 and it
gives a problem when I test it with "smbclient -L bigserver",
that was discussed in the archives. I thought it was fixed.
It gives:-

Password expires
Hello!
My users get warnings about their passwordss expiring.
I dont want them to need to change password. I set the Accountpoliicy
for max. passwd age to 0 but that doesn't affect the expiration date.
What is the correct way to do it?
Thanks in advance!

resolve_name(644) messages in log.smb file
I am an newby to samba, and I have a user who is getting permission denied
when he attempts to copy files from his PC to his UNIX account. Everything
appears to be working correctly on the samba server. I believe he is the
only one having a problem. I found this message in the log.smb file after
his copy attempt:

Windows accounts with samba
Yes, there is a line in the smb.conf called 'domain admin group ='
Just put the UNIX group name that you wish to have admin rights on
Windows to there. Then open up your group file and add whomever needs
those rights on the system. I have found that needs to be done the first
time that a user account is setup on a Windows workstation when Office
needs to install a few files

[PATCH] namequery: suppress bogus warning "resolve_name: unknown name switch type"
Hi,
This patch fixes a warning that gets issued if NBT name resolving
methods are attempted on a name that cannot be an NBT name (e.g.
longer than 15 characters).
To reproduce this, start with a working setup, then:
1. delete cache files (gencache.tdb and gencache_notrans.tdb)
2. shut down your DNS or point your machine to a bogus DNS
3. do a "net ads testjoin"

I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't
appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as
daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything
else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can
list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't

Installing samba 2.0.3 on IRIX
HI,
I have a problem when installing samba 2.0.3 on IRIX 6.4. If I use the
standard IRIX C compiler with -n32 option, all goes OK.
But if I use gcc with version egcs-2.91.60, then samba(d) does not
run correctly: if I try to connect the smbd (with smbclient), I
receive the output below. Does somebody have the same problem?
/usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient -L origin -d 5
