FWIW - share name length limit
I've just discovered a limitation in share name lengths. It may be in the
docs, but I didn't see it and it's not mentioned in the Frisch book on NT
admin.
I tried in my smb.conf to create a share called "public_ftp_files". The
share was created OK, but when I looked for it with the NT4 (sp4) Network
Neighborhood, the name had been truncated to "public_ftp_fi" (13

Configuration questions: 1.9.18p10
I've got 1.9.18p10 up and running happily on a Solaris 2.4 box. I have got
the configuration set so that from my own PC (running NT4, sp4) on the same
subnet, I can login with no problems. Running smbclient on the Unix box
also confirms that I can use other user ID's also.
Problem 1: other users do not seem to be able to login.
What I think are the relevant sections of the config file

symlinks?
I'm trying to switch to using rsync for updating a huge software library
containing binaries, text files, symlinks, and so on. We've been using
something homegrown which I'm not that happy with - it's a perl script
that systems cp and chmod and such.
The problem I'm seeing is:
target computer:
directories ctime-5 and ctime-5b3 are distinct directories

Rsync between 2 datacenters not working
You could try using an automounter, like autofs, in combination with
sshfs. It'll be slower, possibly a lot slower, but it should be more
reliable over an unreliable connection.
I've been using:
remote -fstype=fuse,allow_other,nodev,noatime,reconnect,ServerAliveInterval=15,ServerAliveCountMax=40,uid=0,gid=0,ro,nodev,noatime
:sshfs\#root at remote.host.com\:/
BTW, I'm not sure

Reg an issue with smoothing factor in VAD implementation
Just for fun, I tried to reproduce such an overflow. I turned on all debug
macros, assertions, and checked arithmetic and then encoded 2 hours of
mixed speech/audio with these parameters:
Sample rate = 48000
Channels = 1
Application = OPUS_APPLICATION_AUDIO
Bitrate = 24 KB/s
Force Mode = MODE_SILK_ONLY
Signal Type = OPUS_SIGNAL_AUTO
Complexity = 10
Frame size = 480 samples (10ms)
No errors came

[Fwd: Re: [Evolution] evo confused when searching message bodies on large folders?]
Is this possibly a problem with dovecot 0.99.10.9?
Maybe it's been fixed in a later release?
Might it be a security issue?
Thanks!

How to remove extra spaces introduced (?) by write.table
Dear Group,
My question relates to the write.table function.
I have created a data.frame containing both "character" and "numeric" columns.
When I use the write.table function to write this table into a text file
spaces are added into the "numeric" columns so that the number of digits in
each column is the same. This extra space is added before the actual number.

Reg an issue with smoothing factor in VAD implementation
Hi Chandrakala, Logan,
Can you confirm that the attached patch fixes the overflow problem?
Koen, can you confirm the fix makes sense?
Cheers,
Jean-Marc

Smbclient bind to IP
We are running a Sequent unix database server that uses smbclient to print through the NT servers. Our network
has mulitple sites connected via frame relay. Now the problem; we have been attempting to tune the network to
improve database response. And would like to have the smbclient bind to a second IP address on our Sequent box
so we can prioritize traffic based upon the source IP

W2K3 HVM with gplpv shows strange pings
I just migrated a W2K3 Server to a Xen HVM domain, using the gplpv

Now ping shows strange results:

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Sangoma A108 PCIe V2.0
Hi
Does Sangoma 8-port card A108 support PCIe version 2.0 ?
The card is here
http://www.sangoma.com/products/hardware_products/digital_voice_and_data_networking/a108.html
And we want to use 3 such cards in this motherboard because it has 3 PCIe
slots of version 2.0

Is this a good idea ? Do you have any experience

Bug#810964: [Xen-devel] [BUG] EDAC infomation partially missing
I haven't yet done as much experimentation as Andreas Pflug has, but I
can confirm I'm also running into this bug with Xen 4.4.1.
I've only tried Linux kernel 3.16.43, but as Dom0:

EDAC amd64: DRAM ECC enabled.
EDAC amd64: NB MCE bank disabled, set MSR 0x0000017b[4] on node 0 to enable.

smbclient sees the virtual samba server but not the windows clients
Hello Again!
I now have a virtual host serving (almost) samba and a real one serving
samba under the original name.
On the local machine, I can access the the virtual host through smbclient
and smbmount. Everything seems all right. Unfortunately, the virtual host
won't serve the windows-9x machines. The virtual (and real) host both
appear on the network browse list but when the win clients

docecot and procmail?
Is dovecot still considered unreliable when combined with NFS?
Is this true for mbox only, or Maildir as well?
If dovecot Is still considered unreliable with NFS, how about having a
dovecot mode that would chain into procmail for delivery, so that dovecot
doesn't (necessarily) have to reinvent that wheel?
Thanks!

rsync - missing one or more directories?
I am running:
+ cd /oas
+ rsync -a --rsh=/usr/bin/ssh --rsync-path=/dcs/packages/gnu/bin/rsync
--progress root@sherlock1.oas.uci.edu:/oas .
...and I can see that it sometimes transfers some files, however, it
appears to be consistently missing this directory:
/oas/projects/pers/oct2004
What might cause this?
Thanks!

incremental backup to nas server
Hi,
I like to use rsync for backup from Desktop to my nas server.
- I can setup an cron job at the server, so rsync starts on the server
side to backup from my desktop to the server. But what if I shutdown my
Desktop? Can rsync handle interruptions in a good way or is there a
better solution?
Thanks in advance,
Dirk

noob - Outlook Duplicate Problem Question
Hi,
I use dovecot 0.99-11 with sendmail latest, and clamav-milter, and
spamass-milter. Whole setup works great. We only use dovecot for pop3,
no imap. We use primarily Outlook 2000-2003 for a client. I have a
couple of users who prefer to leave a copy of each message on the
server.
I read the archives about the Outlook Duplicate Message problem

Puppet dashboard over passenger: The environment must be purely alphanumeric, not ''
Hello,
I installed puppet-server, passenger and dashboard. I have tested every
step in between to make sure all is running well and not errors are
carrying forward. Dashboard worked well with my test in WEBrick.
After configure the dashboard with passenger I got the message” The
environment must be purely alphanumeric, not ''''” instead of the dashboard.
I verified the
