SAMBA requesting to be a master browser....
We are running samba 1.9.16p11, and seem to be doing
just fine.
Last Month, our IT dept informed us that our machine
was attempting to be a master browser, which the NT
Wins server was not happy about. Below is my global
config options.
When I killed/restarted the samba daemons (running as
daemons and not via inetd) the problem seem to vanish.
Feeling this was a fluke, it was dismissed.

Is it possible to have 2 WIN servers on the same network?
We have a network of apx 200 NT's,W95 & W98 using an NT machine for WINS
resolution.
Our dept has apx 15 W95/W98 machines hooked to a hub off a switch from the
main network. I would like to setup SAMBA to act as a WIN server for just
these
machines. Is it possible to do without changing subnets?
Now to complicate the question. Network login is done via an NT machine as
well. If we

Looking for MSDOS driver to map to samba
Running samba 1.9.16p11 on Digital Unix 3.2c. We currently access unix
shares from W95 without problems but now since we had our network
overhauled, 2 MSDOS harddriveless PC's need to be able to access the
unix system for it's hard drive.
They have Intel Express cards . How do I setup the MSDOS computer
to map a drive to SAMBA. One question is these computers do not have IP

Filenames with a "*" in unix.
I don't think there is anything that can be done but....
In our Unix shares, we have multiple (hundreds) of filenames that have
"*" in their names, which really messes up W95 when I attempt to display
the contents of those shares.
Is SAMBA not passing the filenames correctly or W95 is just not reading
them correctly?
Any ideas? on either side. (except changing the filenames to not

Hello. First, I am sorry to bother you. I found your email through doing a search on sites related to Switzerland and their related sites. I am a musician (guitarist/singer) as well as other things :-) and I have a website: www.rezamusic.com which I'd like to share with you -- it's a personal site, not a commercial one. It offers many topics, some of which you might find interesting.

Awww... and there I was hoping they'd finally backported TLS1.2. But,
nope, just a newer CA list. Ah well :-(

stunnel wraps a plaintext service in an SSL session.

Patch for #3438: Eager loading doesn''t respect :order of associations
Hello all,
I still have a patch for #3438 (eager loading doesn''t respect
association orders); it passes all unit tests, and has additional unit
tests with full coverage. The patch is attached.
== The Bug ==
Author.find(1).posts != Author.find(1, :include => [:posts]).posts

This means that either one must avoid eager loading or

Anyone done a "File Browser"? Like a free StrongSpace?
Hey all,
Does anyone know of an existing project that acts as a file broswer for
files/directories on the server. I need to implement something for my
students to be able to access their unix home drives on our server via
the web.
It doesn''t sound that hard to do the actual file listing and accessing
in ruby. Authenticating the users could be tricky (PAM?). It could be
done, but

Browser Problems
I am having broswer problems. Currently running 1.9.16.p11 on Solaris 2.51.
I see the workgroup, CADCAM, in Explorer on a pc. But, when browsing CADCAM, the '+' sign goes away and nothing shows up under the group.
PC's can still map the shares ok.
My smb.conf entry is:
browseable = yes
workgroup = CADCAM
Do I need to put something in the lmhosts file?
Thanks,
Garrett Curtis

Samba-4 DNS issue
Its should not be needed to drop and recreate.
Try the following.
Delete the created records in the "wrong" zone(s)
Try to delete the "wrong" zone. ( ignore the error)
Restart bind
Restart samba.
Pray and check again.
Are the "empty zones gone and are your dns records there again?

Samba-4 DNS issue
Thanks for the suggestion, however it is not a seperate zone, i.e. it appears to be a part of the "e2eservices.co.uk" zone with child objects (analogous to "_tcp" and "_udp" in a domain zone).

Windows 2000 local master browser won't sync with Samba server domain master browser
I apologize in advance if this has been asked on the list already, but
trying to find an answer to my question on the archives has been like
trying to find a needle in a haystack...
I'm trying to implement cross-subnet workgroup browsing. The domain master
browser for the workgroup is a Samba box (2.0.6) acting also as a WINS
server. All was well during our initial testing phases when Windows
