smbmount and smb_dont_catch_keepalive
Hi!
I am experiencing strange smbmount problems with my 3 computers.
I have:
janeway, an NT 4.0 SP5 box,
torres, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5a,
q, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36.
Both Linux machines have smbfs compiled as a module and loaded.
I can smbmount janeway shares on both torres and q, and I can see
torres shares on janeway. Naturally, q can't be seen by

can't smbmount samba share
Hi!
I have a new machine on a network:
kemmer: New Linux box (kernel 2.0.36. Samba 1.9.18p10)
torres: old Linux box (kernel 2.0.36. Samba 1.9.18p10)
janeway: Windows NT 4.0 SP4.
torres and janeway are performing flawlessly, I can access both
machine's shares from the other one.
kemmer is new and can't access DNS yet. Thus, I have to use the -I
switch to smbclient and smbmount to access

Linux system crash - odd samba kernel messages
My Linux box just bit the dust in a dramatic fashion (complete lockup,
needed a cold reboot).
Although I am not at all sure what the cause was, the last message in the
system log mentioned samba, and there are some other funny looking
samba-related messages in there.
I'm not asking for a diagnostic, but if anyone has seen these before, maybe
they can tell me what they mean:

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux
6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT
machine and at home with a Win9x machine.
In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm
not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze
machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

Samba server rejects (Win95) request
Hi,
I am new to Linux, I am using RedHat version 6.0 and Samba 2.0.5a. I try to
set up a Samba Server for a LAN.
So far everything (i.e. installation) worked fine, I installed samba from
.rpm and nmbd, smbd is started at boot successfully. I can see the Samba
server in the Windows95 network environment, but when I doubleclick on it
or when I try to smbmount a service from another Linux machine I

Can't sometimes mount smbfs
Hi!
I am using smbfs to mount a NT 4.0 SP3 disk to a Linux 2.0.33 box
(SuSE 5.1). This works most of the time. Sometimes, I get a syslog
entry

on the smbmount command, which subsequently fails "illegal parameter".
What am I doing wrong?
I currently can't browse the digest archives because my

cifs.ko v2.1 bug (kernel 4.15)
Hi all,
I have observed in kernel 4.15 cifs.ko using protocol v2.1 getting
confused about whether a "filesystem object" is a file or a directory.
The true state in the example below is that "Alien" is directory and
"alien" is a (perl) file.
However, 'file' reports the type to be the same and matching the
first object accessed, e.g.
Both are perl

samba windows-2-unix group mapping troubles
hi,
i would like to allow access to specific samba shares, where
the windows domain user is NOT authenticated against the share
with it's username, but with a membership of a given windows-group.
example:
windows-domain user "test01" -->
which is a member of windows domain group "smb_test01" -->
which gets mapped to the unix-group "smb01" -->
which is

Recently joined 2k3, shut down primary, seized roles, now have slight dns (maybe) problem.
Hello All,
As per the subject, we have recently joined a w2k3 domain folowing
instructions on wiki as well as well as relying on valuble information on
the list. The steps we took were the following:
Join samba as secondary
Created dns records by hand (ldbsearch, samba-tool dns add)
Checked replication
Copied sysvol
Transferred some roles from windows
Transferred some roles from samba (fsmo

Samba error when getting file from NT Server to Linux client
Hi,
I have a small problem with Samba in Debian 2.1 (Slink), kernel 2.0.36
and samba 2.0.5. I have a NT Server and a Linux client.
I want to get some files from NT Server to the Linux client.
They are in the same network and the IP's are:
NT Server - 222.222.222.2
Linux Client - 222.222.222.40
Reading samba docs I discover two small utilities:

Win98 can't login to NT
Hi there,
I have finally talked a corporation into allowing me to introduce Unix. I
have used samba before, but I now have a problem.
Some (and only some) of the windows 98 clients can no longer log into the NT
domain controller. They get the same message as if the passwd/username was
wrong.
Here is a snip from my config file:
os level=00
password server=nt_box

CTDB+GFS2+CMAN. clean_start="0" or clean_start="1"?
Hi everybody,
I have tested CTDB+GFS2+CMAN under Debian. It works good but I do not
understand some points.
It is possible to run the CTDB defining it under services section in
cluster.conf but running it on the second node shuts down the process at the
first one. My CTDB configuration implies 2 active-active nodes.
Does CTDB care if the node starts with clean_start="0" or

samba server with two kerberos realms
Hi Rowland,
> Are you using sssd or nslcd ?
I am using sssd. I can ssh into the server using credentials from either
kerberos realm.
E.g.
ssh cwseys at PHYSICS.WISC.EDU@smb01.physics.wisc.edu
(works)
ssh seys at AD.WISC.EDU@smb01.physics.wisc.edu
(works)
PHYSICS.WISC.EDU is an MIT kerberos KDC.
AD.WISC.EDU is a active directory KDC (etc).
The reason I thought sssd would be best is because
