When I go to add a machine to the domain, it adds the unix machine account to the ou=computers like it is supposed to but none of the samba entries are added. I get an error on the windows side of

Why ADS if I can join the ADS domain as an NT 4 server?
Hello, all, I can not easily find an answer to this question: why do we need samba 3.0 to join an ADS, if samba 2.x can join the ADS domain just as well, even though the PDC is in native mode? What's the benefit for samba 3.0 to be a member of ADS? What restrictions I have if joining samba 2.x to the domain as an NT4 server? I bet people on this list should know better than me. Can

net view can see server, but nmblookup '*' can't find it!
I have an XP Pro box on my LAN, and I'm trying to figure out why nmblookup '*' can't see it. I'm writing a script that finds all the shares on the LAN and mounts them, and it works great except for this one box. On another windows box, when I run "net view", the XP box is listed as I expect. On my linux box, when I run "nmblookup -A 192.168.0.111" it

Authentication questions with domain
Hi there. I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 3.3, connected to a domain who's PDC is a MacOS 10.6 server running Samba 3.0.28 (ancient I know). Working all fine, except for one thing I find annoying. MacOS server has a concept of username alias. You can have as many aliases as you want, using any of those aliases are the same as using the primary one. It's rather well implemented in

problems with multiple samba servers in 1 domain
HI, I've got a samba server acting as wins server and domain / local master. It has a few shares which can be accessed fine. It is running FreeBSD w/samba 2.0.7. I have another machine running Linux w/2.0.7 that has a couple shares that is also accessed with no problems. I have a third Linux machine w/2.0.7 that just doesn't seem to want to work when I give it a certain netbios alias.

Can join AD 2003 domain; can't list shares from other servers
I set up an old laptop with Xubuntu 9.10. I configured Samba as to work with my Win2003 AD domain that has MS Services for Unix installed. I can get a Kerberos ticket. I successfully added the laptop to the AD domain. wbinfo -a shows me all users, domain and local. wbinfo -g shows me all groups. wbinfo -a user%password returns successfully. "getent passwd" works as expected - I see

link-dest + fuzzy twice = vanished
Hello, I use --link-dest which works perfectly : rsync -a -R --link-dest="../2016-12-28/" --link-dest="../2016-12-27/" /my/backup/folder ::daemon/mycomputer/2016-12-29/ Now I would like to use --fuzzy --fuzzy, so that rsync algorithm can also work with similarly named files found in other link-dest directories. So I simply added --fuzzy --fuzzy to my previous command line.

2000 and XP cannot join PDC, (but NT can)
I'm running Samba 2.2.3a-12, on Debian 3.0r0, kernel: 2.2.20. I am trying to get my machines to join the domain, but alas nothing has worked so far. My XP and 2000 machine give different errors (but upon changing the Domain name to something other than the set one a different error appears). 2000 and XP asks for a user/pass that has permission on joining the domain. Which account is it? I
