Windows networking and SOCKS proxies
Sorry...I deleted the thread about SOCKS before I realized I knew the solution... I checked up on how SMB connections work on an NT workstation running the Hummingbird SOCKS proxy. It looks like "net use..." and its GUI variant don't use the WINSOCK/WINSOCK 2 interface to make netbios-session (139/tcp) connections. The machine attempted to make a direct connection to the remote

Linux vs. Windows SMB buffering
Hi all, In our office we use a program that makes many small writes to a file. We have been trying to use this program with our NAS, which hosts a Samba share on the network. However, the performance of the program is staggeringly slow on Window 7, 8.1, and 10. To make the problem easily repeatable, I created a small C++ program to just write 1 million lines to a file:

DOS client - basic redirector
Hello, As I mentionned in a previous mail, I cannot connect to Samba 1.9.18p7 using a basic dos redirector and security set to user. I works with share security level or with the full dos redirector which takes 90 k more precious memory ... I got a answer telling me that the dos basic redirector is a piece of ... because it always encrypt the password, even if instructed to use plain text ...
