File locking, Linux Redhat 6.1, samba 2.0.6 and netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.4
Hi, we're trying to use the above combination with Win NT clients, but there doesn't appear to be communication about file locking going on as the mac users are able to corrupt samba's files, is there anything that needs to be turned on/off on samba to tell the netatalk daemons to stop doing nasty things? (or vice versa) Has anybody else had problems with this particularily under

data frames with å, ä, and ö (=non-ASCII-characters) from windows to mac os x
Hi, I ran into this issue previously and managed to solve it, but I've forgotten how and am getting frustrated... I have a data frame (see below) with scandinavian characters in R (2.7.1) running on a Win Xp-computer. I save the data frame in an RData-file on a usb stick, and load() it in R (2.8.0) running on OS X 10.5. Now the name of the data frame and all factor labels with scandinavian

Netatalk Support?
Reply-To: Hi When configuring samba there is an option to turn on netatalk-support. I did this, because we need to see the shared on both windows and mac, but I couln't see any difference in sambas behaviour. Netatalk stored the ressource-fork, and some files the Mac-Finder created in Directories calles ".AppleDouble". I hoped, that with netatalk-support samba would handle those

Samba + Netatalk troubles
I've got a file server running both Samba and Netatalk ([OT] which are two programs that dearly need to be rolled into one). I've *tried* to configure it to minimize problems between the two, but I've run into a problem where users can't delete folders that contain, e.g., .AppleDouble folders in them. When I try from smbclient, I get: NT_STATUS_DIRECTORY_NOT_EMPTY removing

is support for non-ASCII filenames in rsync complete?
Hi there Over the years there's been many people saying how files with non-ASCII charsets got their filenames "corrupted" moving between different systems. So I'm wondering what the current state is with rsync-3.06+? ie I want to use rsync-3.06+ to backup WinXP+ (and MacOS?) filesystems by using native versions of rsync clients to a remote Linux-based rsyncd process. If I do

Long attachment encoded filenames (for non-ASCII characters etc) in MIME headers & corresponding Dovecot behaviour
(Correction: Subject was confused) Hi, I've noticed a possible minor issue with long encoded filenames for attachments where these filenames are split across multiple lines. My understanding of character encoding and MIME is not as good as it should be, so I may easily have got this all mixed up, in which case sorry for the noise... Although I understand the preferred method for handling

First letter in filenames missing
I am new to Linux and Samba, but I have resently started experimenting by installing a Mandrake 9.0 on an old PC. I am trying to use this as a file server accessible from my Window 98 SE PC. So far I have managed to install Samba and the Linux PC is visible in the Windows Network Neighborhood, but files can not be accessed. I think this is a password issue, that I can solve by reading a bit and

Testing kernel and xfs/netatalk
I recently took over a x86_64 CentOS 4.0 server running an "unsupported" kernel. On examining the box it seems that perhaps it is because of the use of xfs and netatalk. I would like to update the box to 4.3. I think I can do away with the netatalk, but doing away with xfs would require a substantial amount of work. Questions: 1: In reading the archive of this list there was a post

Filename problem (filenames containing slashes aka.\and /)
We _cannot_ go about renaming files, for a number of reasons.. the primary being some of the files are technically not ours to alter without a clients permission (names and all) and you don't understand just how many files there are. There are quite probably thousands of files, spread across _hundreds_ of cds and dvds which comes to a total of roughly 400GB. As to a Mac server, i'm not

NETATALK support removed in SAMBA 2.0.3?!
I've just done a: ./configure --with-netatalk --with-mmap --with-ssl --with-quotas on my Linux 2.0.36/intel server... built samba 2.0.3 [release] successfully testparms is happy, my WinDoze clients are working smoothly (good job, Samba dudes!) I notice the netatalk.c file never gets compiled, doing mass-grep's (in all source/lib directories) on WITH_NETATALK don't show any

Samba & Netatalk
I forward this message, because, my problems, are the same: Ciao: Fonya Hi everyone, This has already been addressed a couple of times, but none of the solutions proposed up to now seem to help in my installation (I've already tried the samba settings suggested by =R= on 16 Jun 99, to no avail). I have a Linux box running SuSE 6.0 and kernel 2.2.10, netatalk-1.42b2+asun2.1.3, and
