question on gps.prof in ismev
Dear all, I'm trying to produce a log-likelihood profile for a GPD estimate with the ismev package. When following the examples, everything is working fine, i.e. I get a nice parabolic log-likelihood curve. When using my own data (intensity of hurricanes at landfall), the log-likelihood curve looks like a step function. Am I doing something wrong here? Is my data not suited for the GPD fit?

Map of British Colonial America 1775
Does anyone have suggestions about how to produce a map of British Colonial America 1775? At that time, Great Britain had 26 colonies in the Americas, including Bermuda, several Caribbean islands, "Quebec" (extending then almost to New Orleans), Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Belize, and the 13 that declared independence in 1776. I've reviewed the "map"

Timeout for Queue
Hello, We had an incident recently where a call was in queue for an extended period of time. We use queuemetrics for reporting, and it reports that the call was waiting for 20 minutes. The different thing about it is that the disconnect reason is stated as Timeout. Is there a set maximum time a call will wait in the queue before being automatically disconnected? I tried looking through the code

Goto Question
Hello, I'm running three asterisk boxes, spread across three different countries. One of the offices is running Asterisk 1.2.18 on the Druid Telephony Platform(not my choice, has been in before I started and haven't had the time to remove it). My situation I have is based on the contexts already in place, particularly for outbound calls, I need to do a Goto sending the call back into the

country/city codes
Some country codes are three digits long. Some are two. e.g. UK 44 , Bermuda 441 Does anyone know a formula for determining which part of a dialled number is the country code and city code ? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... application on server
Hi! I have Q, we have an application in the office that needs to be run on every computer. It is a "client interface" to our buisness database. On the MS machines, this one is run as a shortcut to the .exe file that resides on the fileserver. This, and 4 lines in the registry is all that is needed.(except for some DLL's of course) So, can I do something similar with wine on a Linux

plotting Principle components vs individual variables.
Dear R, I'm trying to plot the first principle component of an analysis vs the first variable but am having trouble. I have no trouble doing the initial plot but have difficulty thereafter. First I want to highlight some points of the following data set list(running) [[1]] X100m X200m X400m X800m X1500m X5K X10K Marathon Argentina 10.39 20.81 46.84 1.81

Subsetting does not remove unwanted data in table
Dear all, This relatively routine analysis has left me frustrated and in a rut. I have a dataset (data1), which I subset in order to remove rows where HabitatDensity="Med". This dataset looks correct when I call it up, however, when I create a table out of the new subset (data2), my table continues to show the "Med" information as 0. This is a problem because I need a

plotting Principal components vs individual variables.
At the cost of breaking the thread I'm going to change your subject and replace 'Principle' by 'Principal'. I just can't stand it any longer... OK, here is how I would solve your other problems. First put > wh <- c("USA", "New Zealand", "Dominican Republic", "Western Samoa", "Cook Islands") > ind

File copy problem
I''ve got puppet to do some interesting things in my development farm. However getting a file to disk has me stumped. I''m pretty sure I''m making a simple mistake but I''ve been over it and I don''t see it. Aside: the Type Reference claims that ''it is expected that the file element will be used less and less to manage content''. Is

help with environments
Dear list, Although I tried to make a simple example, this may be too lengthy/unclear of a question for anyone to want to provide an answer. I have been trying to write two functions. My goal is to have an outer function ("foo") that will do some computations based on data created by the nested function ("f"). In particular I want to: 1) create a new data frame using the

RMySQL LoadLibrary failure: Invalid access to memory location.
Hi. I'm sorry to revisit a problem that's been much discussed, but I haven't yet been able to overcome it. I am running R 2.5.1 on Windows XP Professional 5.1 (Service Pack 2), and I believe I have MySQL 5.0.45 installed (I downloaded and installed mysql-essential-5.0.45-win32.msi from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html). Here is what happened when I tried to install

Re: util-linux compromised
I just received the following letter: Date: Sun, 24 Jan 1999 04:01:55 -0500 (EST) From: John Stange <building@cs.umd.edu> Subject: util-linux compromised? I grabbed util-linux-2.9g yesterday from win.tue.nl, and discovered a section of login.c that appears to send the host and uid of the user to a hotmail address. I imagine this isn't a standard feature. :>

r-project.org SSL certificate issues
You are making a very strong assumption that finding an alternative chain of trust is safe. I'd argue it's not - it means that an adversary could manipulate the chain in a way to trust it instead of the declared chain and thus subverting it. In fact switching to OpenSSL would create a serious security hole here - in particular since it installs a separate trust store which it is far more

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Hi All, I have a simple home network - no domain controller, no DNS, just DHCP on my router. I have simple samba file server built on Arch Linux, with single share exposed and couple of client computers, some ot them running Win7 x32 (embedded, not-upgradeable), some others with different Win or Linux systems. All of the client are connecting to the share using the same user/pwd, set up previously
