Offline Backup Error: Failed to open /usr/local/samba/private/netlogon_creds_cli.tdb
Hello,
Below you will find a snippet from the output of running an offline backup.
I'm specifically concerned with "Failed to open
/usr/local/samba/private/netlogon_creds_cli.tdb". is this an issue or can it
be safely ignored? I ask because the offline process appears to otherwise
run without issue. Server is Ubuntu 22.04 with Samba 4.19.2 built from
source.

Samba exporting an NFS mount
Hello,
I have an NFS server with all our user's home directories on a server that does not support SMB. I wish to mount this directory on a second system and re-export it via samba so that users can access their unix home directories from their windows boxes. My samba server is running CentOS 5.0, and I have the the home directories mounted at /home/na, and there is no rootsquash, so the

Remove /usr/local as implicit include/library search path
I am afraid that removing /usr/local will increase the number of support
queries, OTOH I see your point.

"guest ok = no" but guest user is used
I'm using version 2.2.7a.
In smb.conf there is:
in [global]
security = USER
guest ok = No
guest account = nobody
There is not "guest ok" in [printers].
Now I find print jobs which are supplied as user "nobody" to
the UNIX printing system, although the variable %U is set to
the real user name.
What is wrong here ?

spool directory
I'm using CUPS and Samba for my printing needs and was wondering if
there was a way to remove the files in the samba spool directory
automatically when a job completes? I just noticed that it is shrinking
the remaining space on my /var partition.
Thanks for any help

How to --exclude /usr/ but --include /usr/local/ ?
In looking at man rsync, it does not appear to both
--exclude /usr/ and --include /usr/local/
because from the man page:
"If a pattern excludes a particular parent directory, it can
render a deeper include pattern ineffectual because rsync did
not descend through that excluded section of the hierarchy."
I start rsync at / and the files I wish to save are

Domain SID vs. Local SID on Domain Controller & SID requirements
IF a samba server is setup to be a domain controller, should
it's local SID = the domain SID?
Also, what are the requirements of a SID?
I usually see S-1-5-21-x-y-z, where x,y,z = 10 digits, but
could x,y,z be 1,2,3 (for example)? I.e. do they have to be
10 digit numbers or can they be shorter?
If I have a simple setup, and want a sid I can remember can I
just make it 'short'?

Samba LDAP SID and Local SID
Hi All,
I am running Samba - 3 using a ldap backend, recently I have
needed to change the domain of the computers as I am migrating to other
server, I have the ldap database and populated the ldap database on the
new server, but I am facing a problem with SID's as the SambaSID in the
ldap backend is from the old samba server which is different from the
current SambaSID(net

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi,
I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new
Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about
two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running
Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8.
My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part
is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts,

/usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library
I would appreciate getting a clarification of /usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library. I am running R 1.8 on Debian Linux. On one occasion doing update.packages() resulted in versions of one or more libraries being placed in one of these directories without removing the old version, and the old version took precedence over the new. I'm sorry I did not save the steps I used. I

no bookeeping using public folders
Using dovecot 1.0.10. In the config:
namespace public {
separator = /
hidden = no
prefix = Flock/
location =
maildir:/home/baratin/PublicMaildir:CONTROL=~/Maildir/control/Flock:INDEX=/var/dovecot/index/%u/Flock
}
This should be a public mail folder owned by "baratin", "read only" for
all other users. Every user has his/her own control and index area

/usr/local/bin/ruby dispatch.fcgi process - which website?
If I list a rails process on my system I get:
PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND
52077 ?? I 0:09.74 PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin
/usr/local/bin/ruby dispatch.fcgi
I can also find out the owner of the process from the ps command, no
problemo.
Problem: the user has multiple websites on his account , how do I find
out which website a process is for?
It would be great if I would see
