Cannot sync browser list
Hi, Samba 3.0.2a, Debian linux, 2.6.x kernel, PDC server, WinXP clients I'm setting up a PDC server, and it's also acting as a browse master. A few days ago the computer was given the IP adress 10.0.0.6 by our DHCP server. Since then I've changed the network to use 192.168.1.x IP's instead, and the server has now got 192.168.1.3 as it's IP. But, even though I've

Master domain browser after IP change?
I just renumbered my local network, from 192.168.1/24 to 192.168.23/24. My samba 3.0.10 server, which is configured to be the local and master domain browser, seems to be a bit confused: Jan 4 22:03:34 pyloric nmbd[2308]: [2005/01/04 22:03:34, 0] nmbd/nmbd_become_dmb.c:become_domain_master_browser_wins(327) Jan 4 22:03:34 pyloric nmbd[2308]: become_domain_master_browser_wins: Jan 4

Phantom competing domain master browser
My FC 2 server with Samba 3.0.10 had been working fine before I removed the second NIC I had installed. Since that time I have been unable to convince Samba that it is the domain master browser; it continues to find an existing master browser at the IP address for the now non-existent NIC. I have searched to remove all references to the old IP address from configuration files, but have found

Question about Samba and a WINS server...
Hello everyone. I have a question about setting up a WINS server and to allow browsing across VPN tunnels. Let me give my setup... Running FreeBSD 4.9, with samba-3.0.4. Sole purpose right now is to just be a WINS server on the corporte network. We have 3 VPN tunnels setup at remote locations that will need to access the network and browse the corporate network. All the clients on the 3 branch

Don't know how that last email took off, but that wasn't suppose to happen. Any the root 3 59.6 0.0 0 0 ? R< 10:16 11:04 [events/0] is a kernel thread that handles weird irq stuff. I just disabled onboard sound and USB and it went away. I'm still left with my other problems though, here they are 2.) I'm having LMB and DMB problems on the server,

Re: Questions about Samba and a WINS server...update
Ok...trying to follow up here and see if someone can help me out, and let me know what is exactly hapening here. I have a few ideas, but I wanted to post here. As I said in my previous post, I am having problems browsing the corporate network from a Branch Office. Doing some testing, here is some output from my log.nmbd on my WINS server: [2004/06/25 12:20:45, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:terminate(54)

Slow Access
Before yesterday I had a perfectly (as far as I could tell) functioning PDC with samba, roaming profiles and all. Yesterday I made some changes to the server 1.) install dhcp3 server 2.) changed IPs from 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.1 3.) changed netbios name from garnet-base to garnetmain 4.) started two more interfaces eth1 (172.17.0.0/16) and eth2 (cable internet) eth0 is still 192.168.0.0/16

Manually expire duplicate netbios name
Hi! Yesterday, after migrating to a new server, I accidentally started an identically configured smbd and nmbd on the old machine. Since then, there are two netbios entries, even though the first host (192.168.60.5) is down since yesterday: # nmblookup -U localhost -R 'SAMBA' querying SAMBA on 127.0.0.1 192.168.60.5 SAMBA<00> 192.168.60.3 SAMBA<00> I've already tried to

nmbd issue
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Sometime after I installed samba and got everything working, one of my colleagues changed the IP address on the box I did the install on. So after I got passed all the other issues that plaqued me after moving over to fedora 11, I discovered that I could not added Win clients to the domain. I dug into the log files: Jul 8 15:24:03 ldap2

"Phanton" domain controller problem...
Hi, Recently I reinstalled the OS on my Samba PDC, letting Linux FC3 installer do it's thing then overwriting the smb.conf with my old one. Now I find that although it tries but can't become Domain master browser again, although it is happy to become a local master, a login server and to serve files. The reason given in the log files is that there is another PDC on the submet at

Changed PDC IP, all hell broke lose
I had to move my RedHat 5 box acting as a PDC to a new IP address. It is running samba 3.5.10. After the move, none of my windows or linux samba clients worked anymore. I tried rejoining some to the domain, but would get error Unable to find a suitable server Join to domain 'MRIRESEARCH' is not valid The old PDC IP address is 132.183.202.95 and nothing is at that IP anymore (for 4

wins.dat keeps coming back with bad information
I recently reconfigured a box running FreeBSD 5.3 with Samba v. 3.0.7 running as PDC. It was servicing 2 networks, processing logons for 192.168.200.0/24 and 192.168.115.0/24. The reason for 2 networks was security, 115.0/24 had some stuff on it that the users on 200.0/24 shouldn't have access to. Before the reconfiguration, the system was working 100%. To make everything better I flattened

nmbd Problem
Hello, I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36. Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain). smbclient -L server from server works fine. Problem with network browsing
SMBv1 (the anonymous thing behind network neighborhood) because of the massive security problems it caused was decprecated. Microsoft came up with network neighborhood and they've shut it down due to their bad implementation. Samba, likewise, doesn't support SMBv1 by default. Problem with network browsing
A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines. Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's

Samba PDC
Hello I have a Fedora 6 with samba 3.0.2465 working great as a PDC with Win98 clients. The server has domain logon working and login scripts running I have made a second server to replace the first but after upgrading beyond Fedora 8 it no longer works. I can see shares with Vista64 Business and XP Pro although they will not authenticate but the win98 boxes I get "the domain password
