more 5.4 problems
In addition to frequent Firefox crashes (4 or 5 a day, zero before the upgrade from 5.3) I'm also having Amarok crash 2 or 3 times a day. And suddenly the bar at the bottom disappeared - with the 4 screens, the clock, menu and so on. Hmmmm ... methinks it may finally be time to change my desktop to FC and stick with Centos on my servers. -- ?Don't eat anything you've ever seen

Re: Cannot map guest shares in 'security = SERVER' mode onsamba-3.0.9
I'm running samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3 and the manpage for smb.conf does not mention anything about 'map to guest = Bad Uid'. However I did add the line 'map to guest = Bad Uid' an run 'testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf'. No complaines but 'testparm' removes the entire line 'map to guest = Bad Uid' from the config file. Hmmmm???

" Failed to connect to IPC$ share on localhost" when running the "net rpc group add" command.
Probably an easy one for most of you: I'm trying to create nested groups on my Samba server. When running "net rpc group add" I am prompted for my root password and receive the error: "Failed to connect to IPC$ share on localhost". When I use my other login I receive: # net rpc group add Admins -L -U bill Enter bill's password: Failed to add alias 'Admins'

Problem with version 1.9.18p1
I've been getting the following error: request_oplock_break: no response received to oplock With this new oplock feature, should "share modes = no". The reason I say this is when I "rm the ./samba/var/locks/share*" files the error goes away and everything works well until the share files build back up. I've notice it occurs when there are apporximatly 140+ users

Question about BUILTIN\Administrators and BUILTIN\Users nested groups in 3.3.3
Sorry about the dumb question: Are the "BUILTIN\Administrators" and "BUILTIN\Users" local (nested) groups supposed to be populated with DOMAINNAME\Domain Administrators and DOMAINNAME\Domain Users (respectively) by default? If I download the Redhat Samba package, they are populated. Not so with a compiled version. I've had a helluva time populating BUILTIN\Administrators

samba-kerboros-winbind
I would like to be able to use Windows Active Directory accounts for logon to a Linux RH8 desktop. I have successfully used Kerberos to add the desktop to the AD domain. I am also able to use Kerberos or rpc to view users & groups. I have not been able to use winbind. I am using the Samba3.aplha22 RPM. Our AD domain has restrict anonymous set to 1 for the DC's. date axes and formats in levelplot
Hi all (and particularly Deepayan), A while back Deepayan helped me with the query in the text below (thanks again). Specifically it was about changing the way that dates plotted on the axes of lattice plots. While this works using xyplot, everything comes apart when I use levelplot. The axis labels on the date axis are shown as the integer representation of the date (number of seconds since

OK, checked it all in (only minor modifications: I used the existing FLAC routines for allocating aligned memory). on a side note, I got the Project Builder stuff all working again. still have to figure out how to integrate assembly compilation though. lattice and fitted function error
Platform: WIN2000 Version of R: 1.6.2 I'm interested in plotting fitted values in a trellis xyplot. I believe the following should work; however, I only get the points (not the fitted lines). library(lattice) trellis.device(bg="white") xyplot(MULTDV~TIME|SUBNUM,data=TEMP, panel=function(x,y){ panel.xyplot(x,y) lines(x,fitted(lm(y~poly(x,1),na.action=na.omit)))

good news, I finally got the asm compilation working with both autotools and project builder. it's all checked in. Brady, can you try it out too? autogen.sh may need a little tweaking depending on your environment. here's what mine looks like (I have some of the required libs in local places in the user acct that I build flac in, and the rest I get from Fink installed in /sw). aclocal

W2K Server and Workstation can't join SMB/LDAP domain
I have a SMB Domain set up with a PDC and BDC. The BDC is joined to the PDC domain fine and shows up in the LDAP directory. I can add and delete users to the LDAP directory. I can use the user accounts to access the Linux boxes. My W2K boxes see the domain and domain servers when browsing. I can access the shared drive on the PDC. I cannot join the Windows servers to the domain. I get an error

SAMBA setting file permissions
I'm pretty sure this is a SAMBA issue. I have a strange problem when changing permissions on a file (ex. index.html) through Windows on a SAMBA share. For example: All user files are accessed through SAMBA Through W2K, I set the permission on my index.html file so that only the user has read/write and nothing for group and Everyone. Now this should break my web page, but to my surprise it

xyplot {lattice} bug causes crash (PR#2370)
Full_Name: Toby Patterson Version: 1.6.0 OS: winXP Submission from: (NULL) (140.79.2.3) I seem to be able to cause a predictable crash (i.e. the application terminates abnormally) in R using the library lattice. If I have x<-cbind(1:10,c(rep(1,7),rep(2,3)),rnorm(10)) library(lattice) xyplot(x[,1]~x[,3]|x[,2]) # works oK but reversing the ylim entries i.e.

Reading in multiple files
I apologize if this is a FAQ -- I kind of recall seeing something along these lines before, but I couldn't find the message when I searched the archives. Problem: 1. I have hundreds of small files in a subdirectory ("c:\\temp") and I would like to combine the files into a single data frame. 2. Individually, it is easy to read each file
