Slowdown when copying large files
I am currently investigating using samba on a Linux box to provide file server services on our NT LAN (I'm a bit sick of NT doing dummy spits on me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba- 1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm) The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as

Yet another sup server available (Australia)
I've setup a sup server on sup.physics.usyd.edu.au for use by people in Australia. It has current, ports and stable (except des, etc). The max number of connections is currently set to 10, and the daily sup updates begin at 3am local time (if a different time would be better, let me know). This machine is located in Sydney, with good connectivity to the NSW AARNet/TIS gateway. If the plans

Hi Martin, Indeed it does (and I should have confirmed myself with R-patched and R-devel before posting...) Thanks, and sorry for the noise. Help page links to index.html are dead (PR#8196)
Full_Name: Kevin Wright Version: 2.2.0 OS: windows Submission from: (NULL) (66.185.0.208) On the help pages for R is a little circle with an up arrow that links to: file:///C:/R/R220/doc/html/index.htmlu This link is dead. I suspect the link should be: file:///C:/R/R220/doc/html/rwin.html P.S. It should be obvious, but just in case, I have R installed at c:/R/R220

PXELINUX LOCALBOOT 0 hang on Dell Optiplex 990
I have been using PXELINUX, with "LOCALBOOT 0" when wanting to boot from disk, for many years. Now on new Dell Optiplex 990 machines, PXE boot with "LOCALBOOT 0" hangs after message Booting from local disk... without the expected "Exiting PXE" message. I tried "LOCALBOOT -1" and some other values also, none seemed to work. I tested SYSLINUX 4.04.

Asterisk / SIP-Call / AGI-Script / SIGHUP after Answer
Hi, I am facing a (for me) strange problem. When placing a SIP-Call I normally get connected and the dialplan is executed. The Call-Flow is controlled by a PHP-Agi-Script. The script answers the call (via AGI-Command) and a simple voicefile is played. SOMETIMES(!) I get disconnected immediately after the Answer - without any reason. This happens about all fifth call. Later on you will find

non-negative least-squares
Hi all, I am trying to do an inversion of electromagnetic data with non-negative least squares method (Tikhonov regularisation) and have got it programmed in S-Plus. However I am trying to move all my scripts from S-Plus to R. Is there an equivalent to nnls.fit in R? I think this can be done with pcls? Right? S-Plus script: A, L and data are matrices, lambda is a vector of possible lambda

AW: running Rcmd INSTALL, again
Indeed, there is no file named "dlltool" anywhere around here! So, at last I am beginning to suspect that my collection of tools is incomplete. What I have got is "rw1020sp.zip" and "http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/tools.zip". These are properly istalled, I think. readme.packages says "If your package has no C nor Fortran nor C++ sources, see `Simple

Keyboard problem using RWin 1.7.0
I just installed RWin 1.7.0 on an Intel box running Win2000 Pro. If I try to paste from the clipboard to the console command line, the command(s) are executed, but the console then stops responding to the keyboard. The only way I have found to continue is to use the mouse to shut down R. Typing in the console works just fine; commands are executed, command-line editing is ok, source-ing
