List of tables rather than an extra dimension in the table or (l)apply(xtabs)
I'm not sure how to best explain what I am after but here goes. I have a data frame with 2 geographical factors. One is the major region the other is the component regions. I am trying to process all the regions at the same time without using "for". So I need (think, I do) a list of matrices each structured according to the number of subregions within each region. So is there a

Recently joined RODC looses machine accounts
Hi, i have some problems with a recently joined Read Only Domain controller. I had 2 Domain Controllers based on Windows Server 2019 (hosts vmw2srvdc1 an vmw2srvdc2). I and i recently added a new site (PSN) and Read Only DC in this second site based on samba (host lvsrvdc). Then i added a fileserver joining as domain member (host lvsrv39) the same site as the new RODC (lvsrvdc). Performing the

Samba - slow browsing/folder opening
Hi All I have recently started Samba on our Linux RedHat 7 server (P3-1000/512MB with hardware SCSI RAID-1 on a Ultra-160 Adaptec card) - to serve about 15 Win9X PC's (replacing an overused Win95 machine's D drive!) The only thing is, users have started to complain that opening folders from their Win9X machines is much slower than it was before - i.e. there is a noticable delay between

guest access and printer serving
Hello! I have a Linux box that has a HP LaserJet 5L printer connected to it and Samba (2.0.3) providing a print service for Win95 clients connected to the LAN. How can I make Samba NOT ask for a password whatsoever when a Win95 client connects to the print service? I also have a printing related problem: when I print something from a Win95 client it comes out fine, but I always get an extra

Browsing
I am configuring Linux (2.0.33) as a local router. I am wanting to use Samba (1.9.18p3) to "manage" the browse lists on my network so that computers on each subnet can browse resources on the other subnets. My local network consists of Win95 and NT40 workstations with NT40 servers. My test configuration consists one token ring segment on one side of the Samba box (network .192) and

TRANS.TBL files on Win95 fileserver
I have a small LAN in my basement, with my PC running RH5 Linux and a Win95 PC connected by Samba. Everything works fine, but when I smbmount a CD (burned with xcdroast) from the Linux box (CD is in the Win95 machine) I do not get the proper filenames. All files are uppercase, and the TRANS.TBL files appear to be ignored. I have tried playing with name mangling, but it didn't help. Is this a

Serious cross-subnet browsing question
I've been having troubles getting cross subnet browsing working in existance with a WinNT domain master (hey, it's not my machine). Basically what is happening is that I am trying to setup a VPN (which shouldn't complicate things) that browsing will work across. The idea is this: There is an office in my local city that I'm connecting San Francisco to via VPN. The TCP/IP part is

samba blamed for network problems (help!)
Howdy folks: Hi. It's me again. I've posted before about browsing problems, etc. Here's the setup: An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30, samba 1.9.18p8) and ~20 win95 (OSR/2.1) clients. We used to have Netware 4.11 until the new PC/lan guy decided we didn't it any more (our old server now runs

cross-subnet browsing
I have 2 subnets. Subnet 1 has an NT WINS server. Subnet 2 has a Samba server acting as domain master browser and local master browser for a workgroup. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 1 (call it PC_A), I can see all the hosts in the workgroup on both subnets. If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 2 (call it PC_B), I cannot see PC_A. I

smbmount -- what am I missing?
I wish to mount a Win95 share on my linux machine. I can use smbclient to get to the shared disk, using this format: smbclient //win95.machine/share <password> The win95.machine is listed in my /etc/hosts file. I've tried every permutation of the smbmount syntax that I've been able to find in the documentation, dejanews, or this mailing list. Perhaps I've missed some. I
