SAMBA digest 2047
Thanks Andy !
Unfortunately the situation is unchanged. Interesting is that sometime
Win98 can see the correct shares but only the first time when is
accessing Samba and then... lost.
I'm still trying . Can someone tell me how to find what values those %..
parameters take when Samba is acessed ?

Sharing a Samba Share?
Is it possible to share a Windows Share of a Samba Unix Share?
We have Samba running on a Solaris Box, I can map a drive to the share just fine from a Windows 2000 server.
Problem is that I want to in-turn share the Samba share from the Windows box.
Reason is ... I have customers on a remote network who are only allowed HTTP and HTTPS outbound on their firewall. And I would like to give them

Implementing Shares
Hi!
I am using RHL 5.2 and Samba 2.0.2. I have the SAMBA acting as the PDC
in the network where most of the clients are Win95. Earlier we had a
Novell Netware Network and I decided to shift over to Linux/Samba. I am
having trouble implementing certain shares. The exact problem is
described below:
I want ONLY 'nhs' and 'vhs' to have read only access to

how to limit the size of a samba 3 share?
Hello Samba list,
I have a customer that really needs to have its Samba shares hard-limited to
a
certain size.
We migrated them from Novell Netware 5 to Whitebox Enterprise Linux 3 with
Samba 3 with LDAP backend.
We've set UNIX acls on the share folders and subfolders, since they have
specific wishes that cannot be covered with standard permissions (multiple
groups should be able to read

ldapsam:trusted = yes : trouble getting it to work
I have been trying for a while now to enable set the parameter ?ldapsam:trusted? to ?yes? in smb.conf but as soon as I enable it, users cannot access shares anymore. I am trying to enable this because the users are member of a lot of groups and I want to take the stress off the ldap server. I have searched the lists for previous posts with the same problem and I tried to figure out if it has been

Maybe not related to Samba - Shares don't show up on desktop
Now that most things seem to be functioning, I'm wondering about
something else.
On a Netware system, when I view the Microsoft Network, I see the
machines that are active on the network. I can open the servers and see
any shares on that server. I can then right-click on the share and map
to a network drive
Currently on our pretend server, I can see the server but cannot open it

Like Netware share ??
Most of you will probably think about this "It's not a real problem". But not my boss. I want to
exchange our Netware server with a linux/SMABA one but my boss wants to have on the new server
exactly the same directories structure like in the Netware server. And here it is what I couldn't
done : user X wich have two secondary groups Y and Z must browse in Win95 _only_ the Y and

good snapshot solution
Hi all,
I have installed rsync 2.5.5 as daemons on our 35 Netware servers (no 2.5.6
is yet available for Netware) and do a daily sync from a Linux Rsync client
machine with 1.2 TB disk capacity. For the moment we do a daily, weekly and
monthly backup on tape of this machine, but I'd like to replace the daily
backups by a disc-based setup. It would be good to be able to share the

Long directory name creation timeout ?
Hello,
I have a 120 PC netwaork at work and I'm using samba 1.9.17p4 on a linux 2.0.32. Previously, I was using
Netware 4.10 and I plan to replace it step by step by Linux/Samba (I have Unix and W95 clients).
All samba shares either on a local or on a remote machine are working perfectly fine. But I also have some share
on some directories exported by the netware server (in NFS mode,of

Samba and DOS
Greetings,
Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am
attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I
need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP
stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about?
Thank You.

Paradox on a Samba share
I've been trying to get a program that uses Paradox databases over Samba
shares set up for a company here and I'm smashing my head into a wall.
This is a custom application written with Delphi/BDE accessing Paradox
tables on a network share. Previously they used Netware and all was
glorious until the box died, since they're version of Netware was
bootlegged ages ago I decided to

SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the
reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb,
400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then
mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a
dream with no sign of any problems at all.
I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway

Suggestions please about what I need.
I hate to use that "noob" word, but in this case I think it might be
proper.
Our company is getting ready to get rid of Netware and start using
Samba. It will require that users log in and by doing so, have a login
script map drives to particular drive letters base on either their user
or group.
I've been administering Centos servers for quite a while. I have no

ACI appraisal program "freezes" when accessing SAMBA shares
Hi all,
Our company uses a buggy piece of appraisal software called ACI Rapid
Report. We recently switched from Netware 3.1 to Samba 2.0.4b for
file serving, and since then have been unable to create new documents in
ACI.
Before creating a new document, ACI forms a list of all .aci files in the
"data" directory. Locally, this takes a few seconds. On Netware, it took
about a minute.

Samba server authenticating to NetWare server?
Hello,
I've been Googling and O'Reillying around this problem for the last
week without success, so I'm either stupid or it's not possible. My
money's still on stupid.
Can someone confirm that I can't do what I want to do:
- Have a SuSE 9.1 Linux box running Samba 3.0 exporting shares by SMB.
- Have users log into Windows boxes running a NetWare client,

Win98 problem, but not 2000/XP
I'm using an old version of Samba 1.9.18p8 (it's the only one that'll
compile on the system I'm using it on) and am having trouble with Win98
clients, 2000/XP clients work OK.
Windows 98 can see the server and see the shares but can only open files
as read only and cannot browse and sub folders within the share.
If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be grateful.
Cheers

Novell support
Howdy everyone,
I'm new to this list and new to Samba (although others at my company have
experience with it). Anyway, I'm sure this has come up many times in the
past but I have several Netware servers that people at remote sites need
access to. The clients are Windows 95/98/NT, they all connect to their own
NT domain (one domain per site), and they do NOT want to install the Novell

Help: Cannot browse the shares on Samba server
Hello all,
I really hate to just blast out a message right after subscribing to the
list, but we're having equipment troubles and getting this new Linux server
running just became priority -20. :(
Base install is Red Hat Linux 5.1, with all the latest errata patches
applied. Platform (for now) is a 90 MHz Pentium, 16MB of RAM, 3Com 3C509
Ethernet card. LAN is 10BaseT, running TCP/IP

What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
I'm working for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware
for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths
are available.
I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and
have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba
confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how
do you manage a
