Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0 Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

NT domain accounts keep being locked out
Hi Using samba-2.0.0 on aix3.2.5.. Was using 1.9.18p10 before with no problems. I am authenticating through an NT domain (HCHQ) and have smb.conf set so most shares are public (though one gets updated by me every now and then). We never used encrypted passwords. I had 'read only = true' and 'write list = andreww jons' (I also 'force user' so that files are owned by me..)

Additions to UPGRADING?
In upgrading from ssh-1.1.25 to openssh-2.1.1p1, I've come across a pair of incompatibilities not mentioned in the UPGRADING list. The first involves the authorized_keys file: n. No un-quoted spaces are permitted in the options field of the authorized_keys file. While this was documented as a restriction in F-Secure SSH, in practice this was not enforced. OpenSSH does enforce this

Samba:connection only works one time
Hi all, using samba 2.2.5; security=server connecting as user1 (user logged in on PC) works (12:28:55), disconnecting and connecting as another user2 (not the user logged in on PC) works too (12:30:22), but disconnecting and connecting again as user1 (user logged in on PC) fails (12:34:29) as well as user2 (12:38:19). It seems it works only once and never again after one time logged in as user2 ?

Account lockout feature
First of all, I want to say I have been using Samba AD for two years now (since just before 4.0 went stable), and it is an amazing product. We've implemented Active Directory & Group Policy for almost 50 computers and 100 users. Unfortunately, we are now being forced into switching to Windows DCs because Samba does not have an account lockout feature. Citrix (stupidly) does not have

Clearing account lockout
I recently am migrating my PDC from NT4 to Samba 3.025. Apparently due to a mismatch between the capitalization of the Windows account and the Unix account (Administrator vs administrator) I managed to lock the account before catching the discrepenacy. # pdbedit -v administrator Unix username: Administrator NT username: Administrator Account Flags: [ULX Bad password count

lockout ip address after bad logon attempts
Greetings! Is there any way to to lockout a certain machine identified by its ip address after a fix number of bad logon attempts? I'm aware of account policy option "bad lockout attempts" but that would block the whole account and not just the machine. Have a sunny day! Ferdinand

timeout problems with 2.2.8a
Last year the samba servers for our Georgia Tech computer clusters were crashing about once a day running samba 2.0.7. Upgrading to 2.2.5 was disastrous - the Windows machines in the cluster started giving chronic bad-password errors. Since daily crashes seemed an easier problem to fix, we dug in and fixed the 2.0.9 source code. (Our patch is attached, for those interested in running 2.0.9

Domain account lockout monitoring tool
Hello I know there is a domain account lockout feature at: http://git.samba.org/?p=abartlet/samba.git/.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/s4-bwdPwdCount-01 A malicious user can type in incorrect password of any domain users. Then these users will be lockout (automatically or manually) in short time. Do we have any tools (equivalent to Event Viewer on Windows Server) for monitoring these actions

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP
Hi, I have a Debian stable (woody aka 3.0) machine. I am moving my existing samba 2.x installation (that has users stored in smbpasswd) to samba 3.0.4 with LDAP as the backend. I am able to move the users to LDAP just fine. However, the password policy of bad lockout attempt does not seem to work. I installed the samba deb file from the samab.org site. I also have OpenLDAP slapd

Account lockout
Hi, I have just upgraded our Samba 4.1 AD servers to 4.2.2. Our AD was previously run on win2k3 and had configuration for account lockout after 3 bad passwords. This lockout obviously did not work after migration to 4.1 After the upgrade to 4.2.2 the lockout started working again, almost as expected. The current settings are Password complexity: on Store plaintext passwords: off Password
