no updates seen on PC after unix changed (v2.0 alpha)
Hi,
I just installed Version 2.0.0-prealpha on a Solaris 2.5.1 machine.
We are exporting one filesystem to the PC's. I can connect from
my Win95 PC without a problem and I see all the files on the shared
drive. If I bring up Windows explore and double click on a text
file I can see the file without a problem. I then close the file
and go to the unix box and change the text file. If I then

i learned a lot about cups, samba and printerdrivers the last few days

Cached credentials issues and domain and server name being interchanged
Hello all,
I am having some difficulties after migrating the PDC from one
server to another cached credentials no longer work. Users used to be
able to take their laptops home and then logon using their cached
domain credentials. Now when this is attempted now they get the error
that the GAUACA domain is not available. All of the group policy
settings are set to allow cached logons and

Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
With proctitles below.
Strangely, Dovecot is reporting 12679 imap-login sockets in "pre-login"
state, which is about 50% more than there are active TCP connections to
the server (8271, of which 7546 are in "imap-login" process according to
`ss -tp`).
On another server, not currently experiencing this issue, the number of
TCP sockets appears to more closely match the

Uh. It's not actually supported to access same user concurrently from two servers even if you are using NFS. It will cause problems. You should use dovecot director or some other arrangement to make sure this does not happen.

Yes, I realize this. That is why we are introducing the directors to the
cluster. We are also working on doing Dovecot LDA/LMTP delivery, to
improve Dovecot's ability to react to new messages. Currently we are
dropping email directly into the Maildir through other facilities, which
works -fine-.
I realize however that IDLE is most likely not working properly with

Upgrade 2.2.27 to 2.3.9.2: master(imap): net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
As a workaround for the titular issue, I have tried enabling the
"imap-hibernate" service on a couple of servers to reduce the number of
running imap processes.
Since ~50-60% of clients are in IDLE at any one time, this allows us to
reduce the number of running imap processes to less than half of what it
was.
After this I have yet to see the "net_connect_unix(imap)

incoherent oplock request/reply
Hello,
I'm running a samba 3.0.14a server in production on a fedora core 3 (kernel
2.6.9-1.667smp) with a least 250 clients (XP Pro SP2) (up to 400 sometimes).
A few days ago, a problem appeared with a soft that we are using for a long
time. (Petit Robert, a french dictionnary).
When someone launch the dictionnary, many clients are freezed when they try to

COM dates (was origin and "origin<-" in chron)
I was just looking for an easy way to convert between COM datetime and
chron datetime (both ways.)
I found examples on the list, but they involved origin.
Does anyone have functions for converting COM datetime <-> chron
datetimethat work "safely"?

Strange package installation error
Hi. I'm trying to install a new package. I'm a relatively long-time
(though not advanced) R user and have never seen this error before.
For the first example, I tried a few different CRAN mirrors. In the
second example, the file does exist; I downloaded it from the CRAN
website for the package and pasted in the name exactly a few different
times to make sure it was right.

nlme formula from model specification
Dear R-community,
I'm analysing some noise using the nlme-package. I'm writing in order
to get my usage of lme verified.
In practise, a number of samples have been processed by a machine
measuring the same signal at four different channels. I want to model
the noise. I have taken the noise (the signal is from position 1 to
3500, and after that there is only noise).
My data looks like

ext3 bug?
Hi,
I have a severe filesystem crash on a machine with a single ext3 filesystem.
It is the second time that this happens to me (on two different machines that
are identical in hardware setup and mostly in software - I cloned them when
I started to work).
It looks like the journal (or something else, i am not an expert here) has
gone wild and overwritten loads of inodes. I have a single filesys

Choices from a matrix
Could someone please suggest a more clever solution to the following problem than my loop below?
Given X a 2xN matrix X, and I a k-subset of N,
Generate the (2^k)xN matrix Y with columns not in I all zero and the other columns with all choices of an entry from the first or second row of X.
For example, with
X <- matrix(1:8, nrow=2)
I <- c(1,3)
X is
1 3 5 7
2 4 6 8
and Y should be
1 0 5
