Browsing / NetBIOS QQ
Hi all:
I'm not sure where to begin.
My setup here is Samba Version 2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix acting as wins
for a bridged OpenVPN network (if you know what that means).
The net consists of 1 subnet (10.0.0.0/24). The OpenVPN Linux box also
runs Samba, ip 10.0.0.110. There are 2 other windows/linux boxes
"behind" the VPN server.
There are "guests" (Road Warriors)

Browsing problem with Samba 2.2.2 PDC
Hi,
We have been using Samba 2.0.7 for a couple of years on Solaris 7. I am
trying to move to a Samba 2.2.2 NT domain, with a Samba PDC offering
WINS. I have downloaded the Solaris 7 package for 2.2.2 and installed
it on a test machine as a domain master for domain "TEST" and "wins
support = yes", but I am stumped almost immediately with a browsing
problem. My new server

WINS.dat question
Hello,
These two following lines are from the wins.dat file.
I was wondering about the meaning of the last records (44R and c4R).
Does anybody know what they mean?
"PCLAB#1b" 982581535 10.33.6.140 44R
"PCLAB#1c" 982581535 10.33.6.140 c4R
Kind regards,

array loop
Dear all,
here are two arrays: region(26,31,8), nation(8)
I tried to get a new array, say, giGi(26,31,8)
giGi <- array(0,dim = c(region_dim))
for (i in (1:region_dim[3]))
{
giGi[,,i] = region[,,i]-nation[,i]
}
As the above is part of function, but results shows only giGi[,,1] has the
right answers, all the others (giGi[,,2],..giGi[..8]) are zeros. I have
checked array of region and

replace NA with factor class
Dear all,
I have a tree data matrix. For some trees I lack info about tree species,
but I want to set them to be spruce. For some reason the tree species names
on the remaining (non-NA) rows are changed into numbers (that I do not
recognise).
I guess that ifelse is not the correct function to use, but I have not
found any better one in my searches.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Tord

function for cumulative occurrence of elements
Hello,
I have a data set with 9700 records, and 7 parameters.
The data were collected for a survey of forest communities. Sample plots
(1009) and species (139) are included in this data set. I need to determine
how species are accumulated as new plots are considered. Basically, I want
to develop a species area curve.
I've included the first 20 records from the data set. Point

non linear quantile regression - Median not plotting where it should
Hi,
I'm attempting to calculate the 0.25 and 0.97 quantiles for tree height (0-50 meters) against tree age (0-300 years) and I am running into some difficulty with the plotted grafic. I've run the examples in the quantreg help and can get those to work properly and by plugging in my data I can also get the lines plotted on my dataset. Unfortunately I'm running into a problem with the

script help - '3rd last field'
Hi
I need some logic to work out a value for me - this value is _always_
the 3rd last field in a string seperated by '.' but the string could be
5 or 6 fields long, e.g
foo.bar.VALUE.baz.lala
foor.bar.gigi.VALUE.baz.lala
I need to find VALUE - if this were python or something i could do it
but this has to be in shell -
Any clues?
thanks

Useradd doesn't accept dollar sign ($) and "add machine script" doesn't work
Hi,
I have set up a Fedora Core 3 machine with Samba 3.0.9 to act as a PDC file and print server. Everything works fine but I am having problems adding new machine accounts. When I try to add them manually using "/usr/sbin/useradd -g machines -d /dev/null -c "Spruce" -s /bin/false SPRUCE$", I get the error message: "invalid user name 'SPRUCE$'". I can add

contour on a simplex
Hello,
anyone knows if there is a way in R to draw contour on a simplex based on a

Thank you!

concordance correlation coefficient using R
Hi.
I have data which i would want to assess the degree of agreement
between two assays, e.g., to evaluate reproducibility or for
inter-rater reliability. I have used the Pearson product-moment
correlation coefficient. It looks good ranginging between 0.90 to
0.998. Though this looks good. I am told the Concordance correlation
coefficient will give a better picture of how reproducible the assay

Estimating correlation in multiple measures data
Dear R-helpers,
This may sound simple to you, but I'm a beginner in this, so please be
forgiving.
I have a following problem: two analytes were measured in patient's
blood on 4 occasions: ProteinA and ProteinB. How to correctly evaluate
correlation between ProteinA and ProteinB?
I tried:
x <- data.frame(Patient.ID=rep(1:10, each=4), Visit=rep(c(1:4),10),
ProteinA=rnorm(m=10,

if problem in function
Dear all,
I have written a function for calculating the volume of a tree (=trad) or
snag (=h?gst).
The included volume regreesion model includes ten parameter values, which
are tree species specific.
bj?rk.formh?jd.pars is an object which includes the parameter values
(parameter set) for birch (=bj?rk).
There is one row per tree in the data object.

Trying to extract probabilities in CARET (caret) package with a glmStepAIC model
Dear developers,
I have jutst started working with caret and all the nice features it offers. But I just encountered a problem:
I am working with a dataset that include 4 predictor variables in Descr and a two-category outcome in Categ (codified as a factor).
Everything was working fine I got the results, confussion matrix etc.
BUT for obtaining the AUC and predicted probabilities I had to add

Random Network Failures
Okay, I've been working with Samba for a few years now, and I've figrued it
out mostly on my own. Now I'm stuck and this problem is slowing down a MAJOR
project in my shop.
Our solid SuSE 7.3 server's network is dying randomly. All services, not
just Samba (2.2.1a) go out. However, it always happens when someone is
accessing DVD projects from our NT 4.0 Spruce authoring

Merb-style development exception pages for Mac OS X
I like the merb-style exception pages where there''re links to open the
files listed in the stack trace in TextMate and the source around each
line a lot so I stole the idea (and the code!) and made a patch for
Rails: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10401
Here''s how it looks like in Merb: http://yehudakatz.com/wp-content/uploads/stacktrace.gif
What do you guys think?

Starting NONMEM (nmfe6) from R
Hello,
I have made an R script that prepares a NONMEM dataset and I would like
to start the NONMEM run right after the dataset is ready.
I am using windows XP, R 2.9.1 and NONMEM 6.
I have prepared a run.bat file that looks like this:

call K:\nmvi\NMdirectories.bat
call K:\nmvi\nmfe6 "path\control.txt" "path\output.txt"

Magnitude of trend in time series
Hello,
I am analyzing some climate time series data using the Mann Kendall package
and was wondering if there was a way to calculate the trend using Sen's
nonparametric estimator slope in R?
Thank you in advance,

Problem with by(... , median)
Hello everyone,
I am new to R, I have been using SAS for a while. Not surprisingly, I
find R much better in graphics, which is publication ready right away.
Recently, I have been trying to calculate some basic statistics using R.
I have a dataset of multiple rows per subject. For example:
Subject Date Factor1 Factor2 Factor3
P1 0.5 1 1 3
P1 1 3 2 5
P1 2 3 5 NA
...
P2 0.5 1 6 4
P2 1 2 NA 7
