Samba Printing Question
Hello Samba Gurus: I have a unusual printing problem on a Samba server (version samba-1.9.18p7) on a Solaris 2.6 server. Basically I had 2 Solaris 2.5.1 machines that were retired when this new machine was deployed. Each individual machine had Samba shares and printers on it individually. Those file systems and printers were then duplicated on the new server. The version of Samba was the same

Question on User validation
> > Samba Fans: I currently have a number of samba servers running Samba-1.9.18 on Solaris 2.6. But each and every share requires the user to log in with not just the password but the correct username as well. Here is the interesting part. I left the security parameter as default, security=share. # Global parameters security = share workgroup = BEACORP [backup1]

Yet Another Samba question
Hello Samba Guru's Your last solution was so successfull I though I would try one more question to throw at you. I am currently running samba-1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.6 Ultra Enterprise 450. I have the default service to be homes which loads auto_home map from a Solaris server. Logon works great from Windows95 and WindowsNT Workstation clients. But when I attempt to login to the samba share

AW: Samba across subnets?
If you don't want to type the ip adress of your samba server every time you connect, add a entry to your local hosts file and lmhosts file. You will find this files (and sample files with extension ".sam") in the windows main directory of Win95 and under "system32/drivers/etc" on WinNT 4.0. AW: AW: Windows Profiles not being placed in defined logon path
Hi Federico, many thanks to you. This patch helped me too. Do you know the intention of the original changes by the samba team in ipc.c. I don't think, it is a good idea to store all profiles in an separate directory and the user registry in the home path. Thanks again Rudolf Rudolf Kollien email: Rudolf.Kollien@medas.de Rudolf.Kollien@kollien.de

AW: RH 6.1 samba 2.0.7pre3 BUG!
samba does the SMB(!) authentication against machine "a" but you MUST have equal users on ALL machines. How else should samba create files on the unix file system if there is no UNIX user to deal with? It is not a problem of samba, it's a "problem" of unix. The only trick to do this would be to create a dummy unix user and do a "force user" to this dummy on every

Connection still alive after client disconnects
Hi to all, i've got same problems with "hanging" sessions. I use samba 2.0.4a on a S.u.S.E. Linux with kernel 2.2.5. After a client (win95) shuts down sometimes a session still locks the files on the samba server. I tried to use the socket option "S0_KEEPALIVE" and the global option "keepalive=600". During the day i see many log entries like this: [1999/07/29

AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter. Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this: ... PC-PRINTER:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\ :mx#0:\ :lp=/dev/null:\ :if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\ :sh: ... Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your manual. Now create the filter

AW: Machines not disappearing from browse list
I've exactly the same problem. My config looks similar to yours: 1 samba as wins server (wins support=yes" on one segment, 1 samba as "wins server client" (wins server = xxx). The "wins server client" never discards machines from segment 1. I looked at the browse.dat and the wins.dat on the server on segment 1. There are no entries of the shutdowned maschines. Only in

Signal 11 (cause and workaround found)
I encountered an bug in samba 2.0.7. With the config option "logon home = \\%N\%U\profile" in smb.conf and roaming profiles, smbd panics when the share "%U" is not listed in smb.conf. I had some users for which i forgot to enter the accompanying share in smb.conf. When such a user logged in or logged off, smbd paniced with signal 11. While on logging off the profiles where

Problems with printing=plp
Hello, i've some problems with the plp printer spooler on linux: I changed from bsd printing to plp printing. Previously (with bsd style printing) i was able to browse and delete active printjobs, stop and activate printers from within the win9x/winnt boxes. After changing to plp this is no longer possible. The printjobs themself are still printed. Some output in the log.smb (with debug

Client not cleared from browslist with browse list sync

A better fix for the /lib/tls problems
Further to the email below from a few weeks ago, I can announce that Xen/Linux 2.6 handles the TLS problem (-ve accesses into segments) by dynamically rewriting the offending instructions. This is enabled by default in the 2.6 kernels, and reduces the overhead of handling those instructions to almost zero (compared with around 100% overhead when using pure emulation in Xen, when running

Mapping usernames
