Mounting shares across unix->unix systems
Samba,
Can someone please detail how one would permanently mount samba shares
between two unix boxes so as to emulate (or replace) NFS. I know you can do
it temporarily with smbclient but isn't that just the same as using an ftp
client ?
I am keen to benchmark samba's performance versus NFS on my system as we do
a lot of cross workstation communication (unfortunately all on one switched

name_query failed: Samba 2.0.3
I'm stumped on getting Samba to work again on our small network. I've
got one Windows 95 machine that started to refuse to talk to Samba last
week. I *was* running one of the 1.9.18 releases, but when it stopped
working, I figured I would delete the old release and do a clean
install of 2.0.3. I've done that, and used SWAT to configure the
smb.conf file (which can be seen below).

smbd does not run from inetd
Hello,
I've a problem with Samba version 2.0.6, where smbd does not start from inetd.
nmbd starts from inetd and "smbd -D" works fine as well. And I didn't have that
problem with 2.0.4b. The following is an extraction of the smb.log, which shows
an "read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Invalid argument" error.
Regarding this problem, what is the difference

Hello Staff at Samba,
I installed samba 2.0.7 on RedHat Linux 6.2
I tried the installation with the RedHat distribution, and the custom installation from source. The samba is successfully installed, but I can't seems to get smbd started. Everytime I try to do that, it quites right away. Following is the log for smbd. When I check the stauts of smbd and nmbd in SWAT, smbd is stopped and

problem with samba on irix 6.5
I have a problem with samba 2.05a on my irix-6.5 box. Now I know this
must be a user problem because I have run samba on this machine before.
Samba compiles and runs fine and I have tried the precompiled version
too. I have /tmp shared out as [tmp] and get the following messages in
log.smb when I try to connect to it using smbclient from the localhost

Problems with Samba 2.2.7 and Mac OSX?
I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 2.2.7.. I've turned log levels to
10... I have a user who needs this machine to do her job, and she uses Mac
OS X. She routinely cannot connect to this box, and gets an error -36.
The logs show *NOTHING* when she tries to connect. The machine is properly
joined to the domain, and I can reach it from Winblows.
Help?
Thanks,
G.

Urgent help required for a newbie!
Iam running Samba 2.0.10 on a FreeBSD 4.2 platform within a Windows 98/2k

Most of the time this system appears to be working very well with the file
system nicely browsable by the client machines. Unfortunately, from time to

Samba 2.0.6 with automount on Solaris
Hi, all
Until recently, we were running Samba 1.9.18p7 in a Solaris 2.6
environment. We configured our environment with configure --with-nisplus
--with-automount. With that configuration, we were able to allow
multiple machines within our workgroup to act as windows 95 logon
servers. Because everthing was automounted. No matter which machine a
person gained access to, it provided them with the

I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and
login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot

goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta
paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much
what it tells me. I'm just

I hope this is the list - I get E-mail addresses mixed up when there are

and if there is a fix if it is necessary.
Thanks
