Uncooperative Dos Share
I have a server running Red Hat Linux 5.2 with samba 1.9.18 installed (at least that's the rpm package). The server itself is mounting and sharing two SCSI cdrom drives - the kind that are capable of changing up to six cdroms each. The OS mounts the drives correctly. I can see the files. I have shared the drive contents and can map access to them over a Win95 network. I have set the

proliferation of SAMBA links in W2K
Hi! I'm pretty new to using Samba and have come accross a puzzling problem that I cannot figure out with the documentation or Samba books... please forgive me if this has been discussed before in this forum, I have not seen such discussion. We have a customer that uses a script that basically maps to three samba shares, then uses the substitute command repeatedly. Every time a subst command

Password problems with Samba on Alpha system
We have tried a couple of versions of Samba on an DEC Alpha running Tru64. Most users can use this perfectly but a few get rejected at the password authentication, and get logged on as guest users. Machine is running NIS, and Makefile was generated automatically. Win98 and Win2000 machines have had the "plain text password" patch to the registry. Problem seems to lie on the server as

I just upgraded from samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.10 on RedHat 9. I am using the exact same smb.conf file as before and now I can connect to the server from linux clients and most windows clients, but _not_ from Win2003 Server Clients. I get alternating messages of: --------------------------- \\hostname is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contanct the

Duplicate share contents seen
Hello all, I have posted this before and received no response so I am providing more info this time. I am on Linux kernel 2.2.5-15 and running Samba 2.0.6 as the Samba server. The client is a Windows NT 4.0 machine. When browsing from the NT machine (as user administrator), any share I access appears to contain the contents I put in my own share on the server. This is causing a problem because

Browsing problems with Samba 2.0.5 on HP-UX and WinNT4.0SP4
We're *****very happy***** samba users in an environment where: 3 HP-UX 10.20 9000/700 ws act as servers for about 35 Win95/NT clients. Just upgraded to 2-0-5a: much performance for clients with very very low ws load. Great. There is one ws acting as main server offering disks via NFS to the other two, and there is a central samba configuration area where we use the machine name to

Hi, I'm trying to get a Samba (version 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3) to play with some WinXP boxes. I'm using WORKGROUPS, not DOMAIN. The server is running under Fedora Core 3. And I'm following the troubleshooting chapter in the O'Reilly book, Chapter 9. I cannot browse the shares from my WinXP machine. Strange access problems with hostname vs ip
I've recently installed and configured samba 2.2.7 on a Redhat 8.0 box. Samba is configured to use share level security and there is a single share which is public. When connecting to the machine by IP address (\\x.x.x.x\sharename) everything works fine. When I connect by hostname (\\hostname\sharename) I get "The account is not authorized to log in from this station." Things

Have a bit of a situation and hope someone can help shed some light. Have the attached samba config on a RedHat Linux AS4 x86_64bit system and have joined the box to our Windows 2003 ADS environment using: Net ads join -Uadmin. We can map a user to their home directory without issue. The [dataload] or other shares we receive a window on our windows boxes that request identification on
