WG: FileListBox with VisualBasic 5.0 displays only files if direc toryname is shorter than 9 character
Hello,
Sorry, there was an mistake in my previous mail. FileListBox with
VisualBasic 5.0 (32Bit) and NT4.0SP3 displays only files if directoryname is
shorter than 9 character.
I am using Samba1.9.18.p3. The problem doesn't occur if the connected
services is on an NT-Plattform.
Does anybody know a solution to this problem. Or hasn?t anybody had this
problem yet and am I just goofed ?

NT & Win98 slow copies
Howdy all:
For those who are curious (eg, Peter de Groot
<pdgtech@wantree.com.au>) here are the (I think) relevant posts
from recent samba digests concerning win98 and or NT performance
problems copying files between local drives and samba shares. It
looks like there should be some new options to play with in the
next samba release. Could Jeremy or Andrew confirm?

Netlogon problems
Hi,
We use Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Digital Unix alpha workstation
as file server for our users. In rush hour there are 80-100
clients connected to the server. It works fine almost all
the time but sometimes we have problems with the login
from Windows 95.
When the problem appears the user enters username, password
and domain and it displays the message

Getting my samba server to show up in browse lists
I've succeeded in making my samba server visible around the net, however
I can't convince the thing to appear in the browse lists on remote
subnets. I've read John Terpstra's article on configuring a browser at
http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/docs/BROWSING-Config.txt
however my (admittedly willful) ignorance of Microsoft networking is
making this article seem rather

Problems with MS Word 97 and Samba 1.9.18p10
Hello all,
I'm still having some odd problems with my samba setup.
An NT 4.0 SP3 workstation running MS Word 97 SR-1, and a Solaris 2.6 machine
running Samba 1.9.18p10 yields this problem:
Any user creates a new document. They save and close that document,
everything works fine. They re-open the document, and make some changes.
They then click the close "X" on the title

change Unix file permissions from a NT Box
Is there a posibilty to change all Unix file permissions from the
NT-Explorer (not only arciv, hidden, sysem mappig). A solution could bee to
extend the context menu with to entries show security and set secutriy (inf
- files could do that for example winzip-installation does the sama). This
extensions can call for example a rsh programm which will do that job.
Does anybody has a solution or ideas

Letter case not preserved
All files transferred to my Samba server end up with lower case on the
Unix box. Case is not preserved from NT to Unix. For example, if I
copy C:\Temp\MyFile to a directory on the Samba server, it ends up there
as myfile.
What am I missing?
I browsed the FAQ's in the web pages, without success...

Problems with NT data stamps
Hello all,
I poked around the archives on this with out much success. Here's the
issue:
A user is in "explorer" on an NT 4.0 sp3 machine. The User right clicks on
a file and says "copy". Then in the same explorer window ( I don't think it
matters, but that's how we're doing it in the example) they select the samba
share, find the correct directory and

Wins registration vanishes
Has anyone seen this yet?
I am having a problem with the my WINS entry for my Samba server disappearing from the WINS
database. After this takes place I am no longer able to access my Samba server so I am forced to
restart NMBD and a new entry is placed in the WINS database. Although over time this entry will
vanish again and I have to repeat the restart process. I am aware that I can add a

[SUMMARY] Re: New installation (samba passwords)
I had just sent this whine out when I discovered the ENCRYPTION.txt file
in the docs directory. Thanks to Bill Knox (no relation that I know of)
for confirming what I had begun to suspect when I finally RTFM.
My samba installation is now working like a champ.
I'm now wondering about an enhancement to smbpasswd that will allow
UNIX-like password expiration and forced changes. And of course,

MS Word 97 and Samba 1.9.18p10
Hello all,
We're having some odd issues with samba and MS Word (And presumable the
rest of the office suite, but I haven't checked) running on NT 4.0 sp3.
MS Word doesn't seem to obey the umask settings:
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 0775
When a new word document is created, it is given -rwxrw-r-instead of the
-rwxrwxr-x I'm expecting. I'm not sure whats happening

The credentials supplied conflict with .....
Hi,
I recently tried to connect to a samba share as my user name, and then
disconnected the share to try and reconnect as root. I got the message
"The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials".
Someone recently mentionned that this was a security feature on the NT
side. Well, seems Microsoft is claiming this is actually a bug. Found

TCP_NODELAY problem
smbclient is broken if TCP_NODELAY is enabled.
I am running FreeBSD 2.2.7 Stable.
1. Enable socket options = TCP_NODELAY
2. Run smbclient to access a share on a Win95 box
3. Turn 'recurse' on
4. cd to a directory that contains one directory and no files
5. Do a dir
6. The files which live in the directory below the default directory
will not be seen.
7. Eliminate TCP_NODELAY and they

I've got this share on my Samba server, configured as follows:

only guest = no
writable = yes
printable = yes
And when I try to connect with Map Network Drive, I get the following

Can't see my Samba workstation on browse list
I've been doing about three days of reading on this now, and I'm still
pretty much at the same point. I just want my Samba machine to appear
in the browse lists, like any other workstation.
Questions:
1) My NT workstation had to join the domain and an account had
to be created for it on the PDC. Must I create an account on the PDC
for the Samba machine as well? (It would make sense,
