One seamless file space?
Greetings!
I'm experimenting with the 2.0.0.alpha13 snapshot and attempting
to get my four Solaris fileservers to present a single uniform
(automounter-like) namespace to our NT clients. Re-wording,
I'd like PC clients to see a single "server" that appears to
share all of the Unix home directories on four fileservers. The
automounter shields my Unix users from the operational

nis homedir
I would be grateful if anybody could supply some more information on the
'nis homedir' option (Samba 1.9.17a4). We have home directories spread
over several Samba hosts. Although they can be accessed via 'amd' from
any other server it would be a great benefit to be able to guarantee
that all connections were made directly to the correct server. The man
page looks promising but I

nis homedir troubles
Sorry if this is an old problem. I have just installed 1.9.18p10 - the
latest version. I noticed the nis homedir option in the config file, but
have not had much luck in implementing it.
I had hoped it would mean my [homes] shares would map to the correct server
- the one which physically carries a users home directory - regardless of
the machine to which the connection attempt was made. My

missing .dlls .exes?
Hi there;
I have samba-2.2.7a installed as PDC for Windows2K, XP, 98 (have not tested
yet. It appears to work with 2K and XP. However, I have a few problems and
I'd appreciate your comments.
1) net time \\linux /yes takes 30-40second on both 2K and XP
2) logging in on the server gives me the following errors:

Copied files filled with zeros
I'm running Samba 2.0.0 on Solaris 2.5 and 2.6. I've had a report
that a user on a Wincenter machine (NT4 + Windows Terminal Server +
Citrix Metaframe + NCD stuff) dragged a Word document from his NT
fileserver onto one of my Samba servers and the result was filled
with zeros. We have been able to reproduce the problem from annother
account on the Wincenter machine, but cannot make it

Hi,
I am running sernet-samba 3.0.21a-6 (Debian) with winbind as a member server in a
(NT4-)domain.
When trying to assign ACLs from a Windows 2000 client in Windows Explorer, I get
the error message
"Object Picker cannot open because it cannot determine whether nt04001 is joined to a
domain." ...
At the same time I get error messages in smdb.log:

missing dlls & exes?
Hi there:
I'm sorry to bring it up again but anybody knows what my problem might be?
I'm getting annoyed with this.
I can logon on samba, assign drives from a batch file (logon script) and it
looks normal but
at log level 3 I see these messages.

R CMD check failure on minimal code
I have a peculiar problem that I'm sure is a simple one, but I can't figure
out what my mistake is. Can someone enlighten me? I have a simple file,

I have a package directory ExpressCGH1 made with package.skeleton. The
package happily builds and installs, but R CMD check fails with

Update of several SPECIFIC files
I am trying to sync several specific files over ssh. This works fine when I specify the files indivdually, a la:
rsync -av --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync /etc/passwd remotehost:/etc/passwd
What I want to do though, is update several files at once, a la:
rsync -av --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync --include-from updatesys.inc remotehost:
See below for updatesys.inc. The file list gets

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions?
Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories.
Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order?
