Interoperability with MAC OSX clients, resource forks, xattrs
Hi folks,
I wish you all a happy new year!
I want to migrate a fileserver for Windows und MAC OS clients with ancient
versions of samba and netatalk to samba 3.6 (with a samba 4 domain
controller), but this raises quite some issues.
The new server should - if possible - not be running netatalk. While the
package is quite mature, being able to access the same share with both CIFS
and AFS

File locking issues? Has it been a problem for you?
Hi all-
I'm new to both these lists so if this isn't the right place,
point me in the right direction.
I've got a Sun that I want to use for file services for our desktops (Mac,
W95). I was planning on using netatalk and samba until I thought about
the lack of file locking b/n the two.
So, I started looking at other options (like Syntax's Totalnet),
but it's quite a bit of

File locking, Linux Redhat 6.1, samba 2.0.6 and netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.4
Hi,
we're trying to use the above combination with Win NT clients, but there
doesn't appear to be communication about file locking going on as the
mac users are able to corrupt samba's files, is there anything that
needs to be turned on/off on samba to tell the netatalk daemons to stop
doing nasty things? (or vice versa)
Has anybody else had problems with this particularily under

since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and
so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to
go get rid of netatalk these days?
is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble
extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them
back in the new format?

Eclipse (Java) locking issues after upgrade (3.6.23 -> 4.4.3)
Hello Jeremy,
Could you send me some references to the ‘cross-protocol issue’ (Bugzilla, documentation, etc)?
I’ll disable the ‘kernel oplocks’ and see what happens.
We’re getting all sorts of weirdness from our Mac SMB clients since we upgraded to Samba v4.4.3.
In particular, when we open a session with an OSX (Yosemite) client with SMB autommount directories, we see multiple SMBD processes

hotline with Polycom
Hi All,
This is more of a hardware question that an Asterisk question so I hope
this is still the correct place for the post.
I know with the Linksys phones you can create a hotline by using the
dial string of (S0<:number>). I have been trying to do this with a
PolyCom phone but I have not been very successful.
Does anyone know how to create a hotline phone with a PolyCom?

Where is the difference sip.conf - Real-time ?
I have two phones (111 and 112) on a LAN, and I have on a users site a
phone 333.
phone 111 uses sip.conf, while 112 uses real-time set-up.
111 can call 333 AND the audio is working
112 can call 333 but audio is just white noise.
333 can call 111 or 112 and audio is working.
The phones are identically set-up (just user name = phone number and
password are different)
sip.conf (for 111 - all

Capturing Quicktime Files into a Samba Share
I'm hoping somebody can explain why I'm having this peculiar problem
capturing quicktime video files with Final Cut Pro (running on OS X 10.3.4) and
storing them on my Linux server.
The Linux server has both Samba 3 and Netatalk 1.6.4. I have the server set
up so that I can connect from the Mac to various Linux directories using either
Samba or Netatalk.
When I connect with

Netatalk Support?
Reply-To:
Hi
When configuring samba there is an option to turn on netatalk-support.
I did this, because we need to see the shared on both windows and mac, but I
couln't see any difference in sambas behaviour.
Netatalk stored the ressource-fork, and some files the Mac-Finder created in
Directories calles ".AppleDouble".
I hoped, that with netatalk-support samba would handle those
