Nis homedirs
Greetings, I'm using 2.0.0-alpha13 on Solaris (compiling with gcc 2.8.1 on Solaris 2.5, running on 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.6). I see this in the smb.conf.5 man page: nis homedir (G) Get the home share server from a NIS (or YP) map. For unix systems that use an automounter, the user's home directory will often be mounted on a workstation on demand from a remote

Copied files filled with zeros
I'm running Samba 2.0.0 on Solaris 2.5 and 2.6. I've had a report that a user on a Wincenter machine (NT4 + Windows Terminal Server + Citrix Metaframe + NCD stuff) dragged a Word document from his NT fileserver onto one of my Samba servers and the result was filled with zeros. We have been able to reproduce the problem from annother account on the Wincenter machine, but cannot make it

mount cifs gives error 13 after changing password
Dear all, I set up /etc/fstab to allow users to map their network drive (provided by a windows file server) via cifs on a linux server. The lines in /etc/fstab looks like: //windows/drive/A/ /home/userA/W cifs rw,username=win_userA,noauto,suid,users 0 0 //windows/drive/B/ /home/userB/W cifs rw,username=win_userB,noauto,suid,users 0 0 Everything worked fine till

nis homedir troubles
Sorry if this is an old problem. I have just installed 1.9.18p10 - the latest version. I noticed the nis homedir option in the config file, but have not had much luck in implementing it. I had hoped it would mean my [homes] shares would map to the correct server - the one which physically carries a users home directory - regardless of the machine to which the connection attempt was made. get_domain_user_groups: You should fix it, NT doesn't like that
Running Samba 3.0 on Linux 2.4.21 with acl patch. The NT box is an NT 4 SP 6 Server. The Samba is set up as a PDC. I have a file F:\c.txt, which is owned by user usera with Special Access (of Take Ownership, only) given to user userb. If I log in as userb and try to do take ownership on that file we get the error "Access Denied" from the GUI and immediately in the log, I see:

Home Drive Mapping problems
I've got Samba 3.0 on a Debian stable system set up to authenticate using an LDAP server (also on the Debian system), and I'm having problems getting home drive mapping to work. What I would like, is that if someone browses to the Samba server (on a win2k PC), they can see all the home drives of all the users on the server and also have read-only access to them. The owner of a home

dbox - how to awaken the monster
Hello people, Since the invention of this storage called dbox, I have never quite gotten round to understanding it, nor getting to use it. It seems so strange to me and I must ask a few stupid questions about it. I use the MTA to deliver mail to Maildir, either in ~/Maildir or /some/path/%d/%n/Maildir. It has always beat me how dbox comes into play under such circumstances. From the wiki, I see

Update of several SPECIFIC files
I am trying to sync several specific files over ssh. This works fine when I specify the files indivdually, a la: rsync -av --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync /etc/passwd remotehost:/etc/passwd What I want to do though, is update several files at once, a la: rsync -av --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync --include-from updatesys.inc remotehost: See below for updatesys.inc. The file list gets

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order? Yet Another Samba question
Hello Samba Guru's Your last solution was so successfull I though I would try one more question to throw at you. I am currently running samba-1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.6 Ultra Enterprise 450. I have the default service to be homes which loads auto_home map from a Solaris server. Logon works great from Windows95 and WindowsNT Workstation clients. But when I attempt to login to the samba share

Need help changing user password
Hi! I am currently using Samba4 Alpha13 but I have not been able to change a users password. I curently can add a user using ldbadd and a ldif file but I would like to know the recommended way of changing a users password. It would be nice if it could be done from the adminstrator account so that you do not need to know the original password. Thanks for the help! MS

SAMBA4 and Solaris 10 X86
hello, I have been trying to build/get SAMBA4 alpha13/alpha11 to build on Solaris 10 Update 8 X86. I have tried to use the ./autogen-waf and the other ./autogen and following the procedure ./configure(.developer) seems to conclude correctly, however the actual make and make install seems to fail. I need to make sure first, is Samba4 supported on Solaris? thanks /ayman

Help with Samba4 running logon script
Hi! I am currently testing a Samba4 Alpha13 server with Windows Vista SPK2 and I am not able to run logon scripts. I am able to use both profiles and map Home folders without any problems. I do not see any DOS window opening with the script running and I have tested running this as both a user and administrator by hand by just clicking on the script .bat file which runs just fine. net rpc vampire, profiles, SIDs oh my!
Ok. I am trying to "net rpc vampire" from my current AD domain into a ldapsam password backend so I can get the user SID to preserve profiles. I am aware that HKEY_USERS holds that SID as well. In my test environment, the SID for userA in the AD domain when taken from HKEY_USERS and put into userA's ldap entry as sambaSID preserves the profile correctly, also the last digits of

Samba Printing Question
Hello Samba Gurus: I have a unusual printing problem on a Samba server (version samba-1.9.18p7) on a Solaris 2.6 server. Basically I had 2 Solaris 2.5.1 machines that were retired when this new machine was deployed. Each individual machine had Samba shares and printers on it individually. Those file systems and printers were then duplicated on the new server. The version of Samba was the same
