smbfs
Hi- I'm working on a graphical interface to smbclient/smbmount/smbumount. As part of its operation, it will mount shares in directories under a user's home directory. I've run into a bit of a problem regarding the distributions of the mount utilities, specifically on Redhat 5.1/5.2. They are shipping an RPM with smbfs 2.0.1, which is known to have a security hole... so it should

how to know when files have finished ftping? --antairrestored
Just to chime in here, what I use is another file that is transferred last. It can be zero sized. Just some name you look for and then delete when you are done for next time. It doesn't matter how long that one takes because you will know that the important files are already transferred. chuck -----Original Message----- From: centos-bounces at centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces at

how to know when files have finished ftping? -- antair restored
Here's a thought: what about doing an lsof? If a file is still being written by ftpd it should be open for writing. Problem with TCP_wrappers
Hi, I''m running into something weird here. I''m using RH5.1 with tcp_wrappers 7.6. The syntax for hosts.allow and hosts.deny is: <service list> : <access list> [ : <shell_command> ] Everything works when I _don''t_ use the shell_command. I used the _exact_ line as in the man-pages utilising "safe_finger" (comes with tcp_wrappers), tcpdchk

samba-announce?
Is there an announcements mailing list for samba? If not, could one please be created? I want to know when new releases are made, and when security holes are found, maybe even infrequent benchmark results, but unfortunately I don't have time to keep up with this list. My mailbox has been overflowing on a weekly basis, and it's got to stop, so I really need to decrease the volume coming

Create VoiceMenu SNAFU
Hi All, I'm new to Asterisk, but am a relatively accomplished Linux guy (RH5.1) .. I'm using the Asterisk-GUI to try and create a menu for incoming calls on an Analog Trunk. I have recorded some .WAV files for the menu, but when I try to upload the files, I get an AG101 message. So I copied the files to /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/record .. when I go to the Voice Menu Prompts

Smbclient bind to IP
We are running a Sequent unix database server that uses smbclient to print through the NT servers. Our network has mulitple sites connected via frame relay. Now the problem; we have been attempting to tune the network to improve database response. And would like to have the smbclient bind to a second IP address on our Sequent box so we can prioritize traffic based upon the source IP

W2K3 HVM with gplpv shows strange pings
I just migrated a W2K3 Server to a Xen HVM domain, using the gplpv 0.10.69 drivers. Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello! I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a quick answer: When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC, the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles. Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Vanishing maildirsize files with 1.0.7 using 'deliver' via postfix
Aloha, I've searched the list and have found no similar reports, so I'm asking here. We have 3 RH5.1 boxes running the stock Postfix 2.3.3, but due to issues with the stock Dovecot 1.0rc15, Redhat supplied us with the version of Dovecot 1.0.7 that will be in Redhat 5.2. The mail store is automounted per-user from a Sun box via NFS. We were using it with no problems until last Friday,

Problem:
Greetings, I am currently running SAMBA 1.9.18p and want to upgrade to the new 2.0.7. Everything is working fine (e.g. ftping, compiling, installing, etc.). However, with the old version we are able to share a drive PUBLICLY for those who doesn't have an account on our UNIX box and be able to use it on NT/95/98 BUT with the new version it always asking for a password ( Initially we don't

smbclient sees the virtual samba server but not the windows clients
Hello Again! I now have a virtual host serving (almost) samba and a real one serving samba under the original name. On the local machine, I can access the the virtual host through smbclient and smbmount. Everything seems all right. Unfortunately, the virtual host won't serve the windows-9x machines. The virtual (and real) host both appear on the network browse list but when the win clients

Virtual CDROM for Unix?
Has anyone implemented a "virtual cdrom" facility as offered on windows? That is CD images are cached & compressed on hard disk and shared across a network. See: http://www.winmag.com/library/1996/1196/11r24a.htm I have not found any news of a Unix solution. I would like to offer one on a Linux server to Windows clients. It should not be hard to implement with Samba... Thanks

Hi I get this mailing-list as a digest (as everyone does, i guess). This is quite inconvinient for answering single questions.. I every digest there is a message with Subject: Re: Samba dingest <NR>... This makes it hard to keep track about whath message the replay is ment for. Another problem is, that mime-attachments don?t seem to work. This is especially bad, because some Microsoft

IP address to WINS address?
Is it possible to use smbclient to look up the WINS address of a computer given only its IP address (or DNS hostname)? I've been trying for two days and looked through all the documentation, and the total amout of information on doing anything useful with smbclient amount to exactly one file - the man page, which I have read and is no help. For example, I try to connect to a windows machine
