If you don't want to type the ip adress of your samba server every time you connect, add a entry to your local hosts file and lmhosts file. I do not know how many others are in this case, but I must use either floppies or tapes to transport the Samba product after I download it. Floppies are more convenient than tape because the tape medium is TK50 on OpenVMS and it is very slow. I am attempting to pipe the output of smbtar into gzip in a script. The problem that I have is that smbtar echo's out "Params count: 11" before sending the information out to gzip. I can't seem to find a way to include the 'tarmode system' command in the smbtar shell script. All it says is : Error reading file \dir\dir\file.
