WINS problem discovered and fixed!! browsing speedup of 20X for large networks
Ok, after several months of pulling my hair out I finally fixed WINS and
browsing at out Univesity. It ended up being an acutal bug, er bad code
segment. To explain we have a large number of clients ~1000+ at any one
time over 6 subnets. Browsing was spuratic at best. nmbd sucked up %70
of the proccessing power of a sparc 5. Well after serious investigation
I traced it down to two lines of

I have a raw cups printer which samba picks up, but when a client

on the printer and properties causes a small delay and then the msgbox:

Samba 2.2.5/XP-Pro with Domain Account
Hi everybody out there!
I'm using Samba 2.2.5, coming with SuSE 8.1 and should connect from an
XP-Pro PC, really logged into an W2K PDC with Domain Account, to the
Samba server mentioned above.
Problem:
Logged from XP-Pro client into W2K PDC account, I can not connect and
always get a "System error 1240" (net use <drive:> \\SMBSERVER\share)
which I also can not avoid doing

disable spoolss - not working
Hi,
I don't want to have to downgrade my samba server to disable spoolss.
I'm running 2.2.3. (I assume I don't need 2.2.3a since it just fixed
an overwrite bug).
When I use "disable spoolss = no", I can access my printer
\\server\savin just fine.
When I use "disable spoolss = yes", I can see my printer (savin) in
\\server, but when I access it, I get:

Print Migrator help needed...
Hi,
I am trying to migrate print queues from a windows server to a samba
share.
1. I ran printmig.exe on the windows server.
2. Backed up the printers on the windows servers to a cab file.
3. Tries to restore the printers to the sambashare by specifying the
target as //sambaShare.
But I get the following error:

NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND when print client tries to write to \epmapper named pipe
Hello all,
I've googled this but couldn't find anything relevant and the list's
archives didn't turn anything either, so pretty please someone take a
look at this if you can spare a moment.
My Samba server shares its CUPS printer, but Windows clients cannot
print to it (I haven't tried other CIFS clients). I have the
point-n-print driver all set up, so the Windows XP Pro

PDC + LDAP, cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and
OpenLDAP (2.2.23).
When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my
domain (WORKGROUP), using the Administrator account, I am told by
windows: 'Access denied.'
The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is
being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It

MySQL pdb: pdbedit: Segmentation Fault
Hey all!
I just wanted to check in with you all to see if anyone has experienced a Segmentation Fault when running smb's smbpasswd or pdbedit to edit attributes stored in a MySQL pdb. Samba can authenticate off it, but whenever it tries to write / edit the table it just returns with a Segmentation Fault.
Any ideas? Anyone?
Thanks!

Error: STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND
[I didn't see any replies to my 12/27 post... so reposting it]
One day samba was working fine, the next it wasn't. I didn't change
anything on either the Fedora Core 6 machine (relay) nor the XP Pro
machine (oob2).
I'm running Samba 3.0.23c on a fully patched FC6 x86 box.
I followed all the steps in "Procedure 38.1. Diagnosing Your Samba

Win NT 4.0 clients give error C0000078 when login to Samba PDC
Hi all,
I've tried searching all over the net for any information about this
error but can't seem to find any.
I've compiled Samba 2.2.8a on a RH Linux 7.3 box (kernel 2.4.18-3) with
lsapsam support against openldap 2.0.23-4. I'm also using pam_ldap such
that all authentication (unix + samba/windows) is done through LDAP,
which is working quite nicely.
However, none of my NT

Samba Auth: NETLOGON vs. lsarpc
All,
So, I have a OS X Server 10.3.9 box running Samba 3.0.10. File
sharing is fast and cannot as for much more in the department.
Only slow thing: authentication. We are using the OS X box as the
PDC, and running authentication of all workstations against the PDC.
This works good, but takes 15-30 seconds to take place, which is not
great.
I did a debug level 3 of the samba file
