Clustering
[Sorry for possible duplicated thread.]
Hi.
I''m new to Xen and I would know if it works well in a cluster environment
(Beowulf, OpenMosix, CoLinux etc).
I need an HPC running some virtual machines. Is this possible with Xen?
Regards.

MOSIX and ext3-fs
Hi all !!!
I have got a MOSIX-Cluster and wanted to upgrade to ext3-fs, but that didn't work out.
The ext3-fs patch FAILED to patch the MOSIX-kernel and if I tried to apply the ext3-
patch before, the MOSIX-patch failed.
Can someone help me with that ? Perhaps someone knows of a conclusion for that
problem or can tell me where to get a MOSIX-patch for 2.4.15.
I would be glad to hear from

asterisk on beowulf cluster
Hi All,
Can i install * on a beowulf cluster or Is * compatible to clusters. I am planning to install a 4 node beowulf cluster using few cheap hardwares. If no one had tried before i can spend some time on installing and configuring * on this cluster. Let me know.
thanks,

openMosix vs SNOW: redhat kernel causing slowdown?
Hi there,
We're currently attempting to explain a slowdown of an LVQ-type parallel
analysis we're working on. We are benchmarking our analysis running
over openMosix against the same running via SNOW for R. Both perform
similarly on small datasets, but on large datasets SNOW drastically
outperforms openMosix. However, these results are achieve running SNOW

Running R under Mosix
Mosix is a cluster operating system that is a set of
kernel patches to Linux on i386 machines. It allows
processes to migrate to other nodes on the cluster
transparently. See www.mosix.org for details. However,
my R processes were refusing to migrate.
Using strace, and delving into the R code, I found
that it was due to a large number of calls to the system
setjmp and longjmp routines - the

Barry,
Would you mind providing the necessary patch for this behavior?
Thanks,

Fwd: RHEL5 network throughput/scalability
Hi All,
I have posted this messgage yesterday in the Beowulf mailing list, and did
not get any responses, as i have tried different Centos kernels to see if
the behaviour changes or not, and it did not change much, I am posting it
here, I hope no one minds, and thanks in advance for any pointers or clues?

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machines
Hi,
does anybody know how to use the dual processors in the machines of a cluster? I am using R with rpvm and snow packages. I usually start pvm daemon and add host machines first, and then run R to start my computing work. But I find that only one processor in each machine is used in this way and the other one always stays idle. Is there any simple way to tell pvm to use the two processors at

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machi nes
Caveat: I've only played with this a couple of years ago...
I believe you can just add each host _twice_ (or as many times as the number
of CPUs at that host) to get both CPUs to work.

Problems with snow and rpvm
Dear Friends,
I'm trying to learn to use parallel computation using
snow & rpvm
Now, I have two boxes:
1) Pentium 4, pvm 3.4.5, R 2.2.0
with FreeBSD 5.4 (box uffbsd);
2) PowerPC, pvm 3.4.5, R 2.1.1 with
Debian Linux latest stable (box powerpclinux);
I'm using the
instructions in (found in snow.pdf) http://www.stat.uiowa.
edu/~luke/R/cluster/cluster.html.

Using log() on an openMosix cluster
Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice about a problem that I realize
will be difficult to reproduce for some people. I'm running R 1.7.1 on
an openMosix (Linux) cluster and have been experiencing some odd
slow-downs. If anyone has experience with such a setup (or a similar
one) I'd appreciate any help. Here's a simplified version of the problem.
I'm trying to run the

Mosix?
Has anyone tried Asterisk on a MOSIX cluster? My concern is if there is any adiitonal laltency when when the processes are moved from on node to another. Anyone tried it yet?

ps. Anyone have any info on MYSQL support with Asterisk? I see the conf file but I dont see a database schema to install...

Rmpi installation over MPICH
This is a rather obscure question, I realize. I have written to the
package author but have not heard back as of yet. I have read the
README in the package, as well, but it didn't give me enough detail to
diagnose the problems that I am having. (I did edit out the LAM-MPI
check in zzz.R.in.)
I am working to install Rmpi on top of MPICH on a beowulf cluster.

alternative to rocks cluster
Hi
I am after a solution where i can easily kickstart many, read hundreds,
of boxes in a short time frame. Perhaps the way i install software is to
actually re-kix the box with a new software baseline - that type of idea.
I have looked at rocks and it looks good but it seems a little rigid in
that i need to be able to determine certain things like hostname etc as
in our env hostname

R on Beowulf cluster?
Dear R-help,
Has anyone tried running R on a Beowulf-type cluster? I can get R to run in
batch (using R CMD BATCH) on a cluster, but am wondering if it is possible
to get an interactive R session on a compute node. Right now, if I run:
beorun --nolocal R
I just get the R start-up message and back to the shell prompt. If I try
bpsh 0 R
I can get R started (but the R prompt does not

Parallelism
Greetings.
In looking through the mail archives, I don't see any mention of
parallelism of the vorbis code (particularly the encoder). I was
wondering if anyone was looking into this at all? Either with threads,
and/or on some kind of parallel machine (e.g., a Beowulf cluster)? I see
very little mention of threads in the source code, which leads me to
believe that they are only there for

Help with makeClusters for Snow
Hi Everybody,
I know that R has snow package which can be used for Parallel Computing.
However, every time I try making a cluster, the only type of cluster I'm
able to make is the "SOCK" (that too because I disabled the firewalls). For
the rest (i.e. MPI, NWS, and PVM), I get error every time I try making one.
I get the following errors

loading .RData on distributed system
Hi, all.
I'm running R on a beowulf system, with software that can take a list of
single-processor jobs and parcel them out over the system. (In case it's
of interest, they're dual pentium 866 machines connected by fast
ethernet.) The administrators of the system found that I was causing a
huge load on the file server, and when they investigated it turned out
that each process was
