Setting up more than 1 samba domain logon server in the same subnet
Hello all, I have a samba domain logon server set up for Windows 98 clients using SambaV1.9.18p8. Logon and sharing are working perfectly fine. It is serving workgroup yyctpa. Today, I installed SambaV1.9.18p8 again on another Solaris 2.6 running on a PC (name TMA), using the same smb.conf as the workable version but serving a different workgroup yyctpb. I created an account testuser in the

EMERGENCY: User profile for Win98 domain logon lost after upgrade to Oct 5 CVS code
Hello all, I'm in very big big trouble here. In an attempt to enable domain logon for NT workstations as well, I fetched the CVS code on Oct 5, 98. I successful built it with no error. I copied the smb.conf from a workable Sambav1.9.18p8 to the Samba2.0alpha. Then I started the smbd and nmbd of Samba2.0alpha. I rebooted one of the Windows 98 (which used to be working happily with

Re-How to enable domain logon from NT workstation
Hi, This is really a follow on from Sandie's (shui@pointsnoth.com) problem of using samba to act as a domain logon server for NT Workstation 4. I have tried using samba2alpha8 (on Linux 2.0) and have failed to get the domain logon working from NT Workstation although Windows98 worked fine. I followed the instructions in Samba NT Domain FAQ apart from the use of encrypted passwords which

Failed to connect NT workstation to Samba2.0alpha8
Hi Folks, I downloaded Samba2.0alpha8 from Samba site. Compiled it and installed it on the Solaris 2.6 unix box. I set up domain logon for both Windows 98 clients and WinNT. There is no problem logging on from Windows98 and the shares are all working alright. Then, I followed Samba NTDOM FAQ and add the NT workstation name into /etc/passwd and smbpasswd (using smbpasswd -a -m

Restrict logon to groups of workstations II
After sending my first email, I tried to modify auth/auth_sam.c to allow groups of workstations to the workstations list. And, for my surprise (?!) it was quite easy. And worked fine. I use LDAP as sam backed, and for unix accounts and groups database. I create a test group "stations" and putted there into two of my workstations. Then I defined the "sambaUserWorkstations"

restrict logon to groups of workstations
Hi. I see the "workstations" parameter (associated to a Sam Account) is used to restrict logon of that user to the listed workstations. But it would be nice to restrict logon based on list of groups of workstations, too. Just like it is possible to list unix groups or netgroups for parameters like "valid users". Does the Samba Team think about to extend the

NT access problems: The account is not authorized to logon from this station
I recently installed RedHat 5.2 w/ SAMBA and hooked it up to my small LAN. All my other machines are Windows 95, 98, and NT. I have TCP/IP installed on all machines and they can all ping each other. I am not running with a domain controller. I am instead using a workgroup. All Windows machines can talk to each other both through TCP/IP and Network Neighborhood. I finally got SAMBA set up on the

Anyone else gotten this to work and have some tips/tricks/gotchas? I'm trying to

Machine account pasword change failed (NT 4)
Hi guys and girls, I run a Samba-3.0 PDC for N.T. workstations on a Slackware Linux box. I often see the following error in the N.T. workstation's event log: Changing machine account password for account "xxxxx$" failed with the following error: The handle is invalid. Any ideas what this could be ? I'm not using PAM in any way. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. --

NT logon scripts "error 59" ?
Is anyone having any problems mapping samba shares in a mixed NT/Samba domain ? I've setup samba as a domain member server using winbind, everything work perfectly except... If i edit my NT logon script and add a "net use j: \\samba\drive" entry in the script, only 90% of the users will map the samba drive, my workstation included, it's a mix, 98/2000 and XP workstation seem to

Prompted for passwd on NT after succesful logon?
Hi, this has probably been answered before but I couldn't find it in the archives, so... Sun SPARC Solaris 2.6 and Samba 2.0.0, plain passwords (no smbpasswd, only Unix usernames and no NT domain). Everything works fine, but those using NT are prompted for username and password when they first access a share, even though they have already logged in to the NT-box using the same username
