Samba hangs badly making the OS hang unrecoverably too
Hi everybody, i'm getting mad regarding a very serious (since it's happening on a production server) issue with a samba domain joined installation. This machine has worked perfectly for an year and the last configuration tune up and version upgrade (3.0.23c) went along fine in the first days of January. It's been two weeks approximately now since we started to have a bad issue, a

PAM Unable to dlopen /usr/lib64/sercurity/pam.winbind.so
PAM Unable to dlopen /usr/lib64/sercurity/pam.winbind.so:version SAMBA_4.8.3 not found (required by usr/lib64/security//pam.winbind.so. I cannot authenticate AD users and the error above appears in the logs. I may could have corrupted this when I was trying to resolve my issues with UIDs. Is there a way I can recompile or re-download these packages?

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = se rver (was sercurity = user)
James: I use Winnind to authenticate users from the Windows PDC - I have no UNIX users. Have you looked at this? I've got an informal HOWTO if you'd like it. Thanks, Kevin L. Simulating points from GLM corresponding to new x-values
Dear List, Does anyone know how to simulate data from a GLM object correponding to values of the independent (x) variable that do not occur in the original dataset? I have tried using simulate(), but it generates a new value of the dependent variable corresponding to each of the original x-values, which is not what I need. Ideally I whould like to simulate new values for GLM objects

help on plotting series with different x-axis values on a graph with one x-axis
Hi, I have run into this problem a couple of times now and hope you can help! If I want to plot mulitiple series with differing x-axis values (however, all in the same range) in 1 plot with one common axis R obstruses the plots. E.g. if I plot water content against time and I start with the sampler at 5 cm depth, it plots that one right. But the next depth, 15 cm, is measured at slightly

Importing TIFF files into a R matrix
Hi I am facing a problem where I would like to import a TIFF image (of spots on a nylon filter) into R (into a matrix for example). When plotting the matrix using fx. scatterplot3d I would then be able to see how the pixel-intensities are distributed in "spot-areas" on the filter - which would be very helpful. Does anynone know of a way to do this? Best regards, Peter Hagedorn ...

cupsaddsmb and samba
Hello, I tried to find a way to having the setup of cups printing working for windows client. I end up now with "cupsaddsmb -v -a -U root" finishing by "Printer Driver mesange successfully installed. Running command: rpcclient localhost -N -U'root%xxxxxxxx' -c 'setdriver mesange mesange' cmd = setdriver mesange mesange result was NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL" My

Windows losing EnablePlainTextPassword settings after reboot
Hi, We have been experiencing problems where workstations (Win2K SP3, latest updates) have their registry setting for EnablePlainTextPassword set to 0 after reboot. We have Samba 2.27 and a pilot of Samba 3.0 Could it be one of MSs sercurity updates ? Has anyone seen this before ? Any input would be welcome ! Thanks, Laurent Biron Motorola.

Multi ADS Auth servers in 1 smb.conf
Hello All: I would love to RTFM on multiple ADS servers being configured for ADS sercurity, but I can't find anything. Specifically: I have 2 ADS servers at 1 site. I have 4 SAMBA file servers at said site. If ADS server 1 goes down -- It will not cascade to ADS Server 2. How can I set that up? I have seen when using "security = server" multiple server names listed, but have

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = server (was security = user)
The interesting part is that PAM nor the SMB auth plugin for Apache requires you to be a member of the domain. However, the caveat with pam_smb_auth is that you have to have a unix account for every windows user you want to authenticate. I guess the behavior I'm trying to achieve is the one achieved with the Apache plugin: 1) Doesn't require you to be a member of the domain 2)

domain level authentication?
I'm trying to set up a samba server, such that 60 or so win 98 users can log into the linux box and be plopped into their respective home directories on it. I don't want them to be promted for passwords, I want the PDC, an NT box, to take care that in such a wy that I do not need a smbpasswd file. I know almost nothing about NT, but the server running works just fine, and will let people

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = se rver (was security = user)
James: (Again someone correct me if I'm wrong) PAM allows local access to the Samba machine as well as authenticating Samba users. Winbind *only* allows for Samba access. This is why I chose *not* to use PAM in my setup. I don't want normal users to have local logon access to *MY* servers. <evil grin> With Winbind, you don't need PAM at all. If you're planning on
