SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months
but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed.
I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share.
When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for
password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is
Denied" when you try to access the

No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status,
but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print
documents.
I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server
makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories
available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients.
From a Win98 client, print

I want to use %U to map My Documents to each individual's directory on the

when I log in as "george". In Win98 %U comes across as "george".

Reshape package and variable assignment
R Experts,
I would like to create a series of variables without having to assign a separate line of code
for each new variable. My abbreviated dataframe (DF) contains two groups of linked variables
(SP1:SP3) and (CAU1:CAU3). Within SP1:SP3 are character codes (full dataframe contains 26
unique codes and SP1:SP9, CAU1:CAU9). CAU1 represents the quantitative measurement of code x

Presence/ absence data from matrix to single column
I've been trying to reshape this database but haven't succeed at it. I
tried using loops but can't get it right. I just want to reshape my
database from this matrix, to the one below, with only one column of data.

Can survive both NT4 SP3 & SP1?
Hello,
I'm an Information System admin.
We have a bunch of PC with Windows NT 4.0-SP1(Service Pack 1).
Then I'm going to upgrade them to SP3 maybe soon. I set up
Samba server at SunOS 4.1.3 without password encryption. My
question is, can survive both SP1 and SP3 with pw encrypted
Samba server simultaneously? Or, how do I upgrade NT4-SP1
into SP3? I can't imagine upgrading

Win98 and Samba 2.2.3a (PR#26045)
Hi !
I'm sending you all my test smb.conf and the log file generated with a
2.2.5rc4 installation.
The trouble is that I cannot create new directories (I'm using a WinXX
Italian version).
Then under Win98 I get the most strange behaviour. In addition to the
above, using win98 I can't copy files from the share to the local disk
(error 1026).
Please help
Thanks

win98 - can't find files
Hello together.
I have a Problem with my local Fileserver.
Scince a few days Win98 Clients a not possible to access Directorys
deeper than one Directory.. For example:
\\rechner\cinema is avaible, but if the Clients access a subdirectory

that the Directory doesn't exist. I changed nothing in my smb.conf

Samba & Win98
Hello everybody!
this is my second post, as nobody answered my first question. I think it was
too general, so this time I'll try to be more specific.
I've installed a Samba box based on Slakware Linux 3.0 kernel 2.0.34, samba
1.9.18p8. This box is installed in a small local network with a NT4 Server and a
Novell 4.01 Server. Clients are all Windows 95 except for two Win98 units.

SAMBA digest 1846 -- WIN 98 password problem
To the Samba Developers :-
Maybe you can allow for old+new methods of authentication in your newer
releases :-
<<psuedo-CODE>>
// consider FIRST that the passwd passed is cleartext
// then use old method... of NOT using smbpasswd for authentication.
// I guess you would use that in the UNIX crypt system call & match
with /etc/passwd
// if that failed to authorize, DO

Encrypted passwords and OS2/Win95/Win98
My LAN is running Samba v1.9.18p10 under RedHat Linux v5.2. Using the SMB
services are Win95 and OS/2 clients. It's all running fine.
I will soon be adding Win98, though, and I understand that there is a
question of password encryption. I'm concerned how the
encrypted/plain-text communication of password will affect my existing
configuration.
If I reconfigure Samba to use encrypted

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter,
i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for
something
that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only
thing
perhaps interesting to you could be this:

This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x

try the following, each of my "fit_s" is replaces instead of read. Is there a
way to read from the regression summaries that does not require writing

win98 access to samba
TWIMC,
I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95
machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the
browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access
//SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get
accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the
defaults and shared the

the Server. The can't access Directorys deeper than the share.
I use samba 2.2.3a-1 for Debian Linux.
I know about the Password Problem with Windows and I can say that

I already removed samba an reinstalled it again, but it doesn't
take any effect.
I append my smb.conf.

migration win95 -> win98
Hi everybody,
we are currently running a small network with a samba server and a few
Windows _95_ workstations. The server stores roaming profiles for all
users and provides authentification (logon scripts, policy file, ...)
Now, we are planning to add a Windows _98_ workstation.
Q1: Will Win95 and Win98 be able to work with the same user profiles,
policy file etc?
If not, what can I do?
Q2:
