disk order question
I'm not sure, but I think I may be having a disk order issue related to my installation woes. When I boot the installer, it sees /dev/sda and /dev/sdb on my 3ware disk controller (both multi TB raid 5 arrays). It also sees /dev/sdc, which is the target disk for the installation. The install runs fine (5.11, BTW) and tells me to reboot. My reboot fails. If I go into grub and do a find

Audio CD problem
Hello I just downloaded a great program called Transcribe (to slow down music so you can learn it) available at http://www.seventhstring.demon.co.uk/ and it worked smoothly and without problem through Wine on my Gentoo 1.4 laptop. The problem is that the program wants to open .cda files to access the CD tracks and I don't know about a way to mount audio CDs in Linux. I could of course rip the

removing data randomly based on previous observations
Hello, I have a dataset which contains multiple trap pulls over the course of a fishing season. Each trap was baited and then returned to the water to be pulled again. I am trying to remove that bait from the catch observed on the next pull (the bait is the same as the catch, lobster). The traps have been baited differently throughout the season. I would like to randomly remove two lobsters

OpenSSH VPN between Mac OS X and OpenBSD
Honestly, I'm probably not the best person to ask this. I really just deal with network performance issues. You should try the OpenSSH development group. I've cc:'d that group on this message. However, a quick look at the code shows that you'd only be getting that warning if both CUSTOM_SYS_TUN_OPEN and SSH_TUN_OPENBSD are not defined. Grep on the first define we find the

problems using --ignore-existing and filter rules
Greetings everyone, I have a problem which I believe is a collision between the --ignore-existing option and filter rules. It appears to me that regardless of argument order, when I specify the two on a command line, even if a non-existing directory appears in the filter list as a protect rule. But when I change protect rules to exclude rules, the excluded files/directories appear not to be

Windows 2000 and encrypted passwords
I have a mixed network of Win95, Win98 and Unix machines. I am using Samba very happily. I would like to add a Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 client machine to the network, but don't know how to turn off the password encryption. I am currently editing the registry on the Win98 machines. If someone can tell me how to edit the NT 4.0 and Win2000 registry I would appreciate it. Thanks, Dan

What's the thing? FreeBSD Security AdvisoryFreeBSD-SA-03:08.realpath (fwd)
Hello there. I tried make update using the following stable-supfile: *default base=/usr *default prefix=/usr *default release=cvs tag=RELENG_4 *default delete use-rel-suffix and my two nearest Russian CVS mirrors showed no changes in realpath. Heck, I downloaded the patch and said in /usr/src: # patch < realpath.patch so it was rejected. Then I looked into realpath.c's revision and

xp pro & debian
I've got a working samba setup on a debian linux server. Existing windows boxes are win98 with unencripted passwords. They only need to see the exported directories on the samba server. All the networking is working. (dns, dhcp, ping, internet access, etc ) Anything I do on my new XP Pro box or in samba.conf gives the error message:- The folder you entered does not appear to be valid.please

problem with lattice tiff or bitmap: character size and color
Hi all, I am trying to make tiff files of lattice plots at a resolution greater than 300 dpi required by a journal (PLoS ONE). I have tried both the tiff and bitmap functions. tiff keeps panel colors but reduces axes and tick labels so they are nearly invisible. bitmap maintains correct label size but only produces greyscale. Regular plots work fine with tiff; the problem is only with lattice

mountpoint permissions changing by themselves
Hi, We've been using an AFR configuration of gluster where there are a few gluster servers and many gluster clients. We've noticed that recently, the permissions on the mount point from the client's perspective occasionally change to 444. There's no evidence of sudo or chmod activity in system logs, and cron.d, cron.daily, logrotate.d all come up clean as well, which is

Extensions fail to register themselves when all trunks are unreachable.
Hi, my asterisk server has a strange behavior when all trunks are unreachable (for example due to internet connection), it doesn't accept registrations from any internal extension, and, obviously, I can't do any internal call. On the log I see only lines like: [2013-09-30 01:35:04] NOTICE[1827] chan_sip.c: Peer 'xxx' is now UNREACHABLE! Last qualify: 36 and then [2013-09-30
