I have been reading John blair's book "SAMBA:Intergrating UNIX and Windows". There is a reference in the book to Authenticationoptions on page 66 for LAN Encripyted Password Support. I found these lines a version 1.9.16p11 # This is for SMB encrypted (lanman) passwords. # you may wish to add -DREPLACE_GETPASS if your getpass() is limited # to 8 chars # DES_BASE=/usr/local/libdes #

What is Judy?
I am trying to build Miredo 1.1.5 (http://www.remlab.net/miredo/devel.shtml.en) I have followed the rpmbuild instructions from: http://www.owlriver.com/tips/non-root/, and have the miredo source in ~/build/miredo-1.1.5. I run ./configure (as the INSTALL text file tells me to do) and get the error: checking for Judy.h usablity... no checking for Judy.h presence... no checking for Judy.h...

how to stop WfWG local browse master announcements?
this isn't strictly a samba question, but it is related in that i'm trying to a samba server as my domain master browser and multiple samba servers as local master browsers for a workgroup across multiple subnets. everything seems to be working wonderfully except for one WfWG host which does not show up in the browse list as expected. i notice that this host is announcing itself as a

cannot access samba from WfWg running trumpet winsock
Hi all! Here is my problem: I have installed RedHat Linux version 6.0 on a computer and I want to share its resources via samba. Unfortunately, my computer - which is running WfWg 3.11 for Eastern Europe and the trumpet winsock TCP/IP stack is not able to see the samba server. Other computers, running Win95, Linux and WfWg with M$ TCP/IP stack perform OK. I have tried the following combinations:

question about --bwlimit=
I am doing some benchmarking of rsync. I am using the --bwlimit= option to throttle down rsync to predict its operation over slow communications links. I am using rsync 2.6.2 from the release site without any patches. I downloaded the release rather than pull from the CVS tree. I have 2 servers "wilber" (the remote archive) and "judy" (the local archive) connected with a gig

analyze subsample of dataframe
Hi there, I'm dealing with a pretty big dataset (~22,000 entries) with numerous entries for every day over a period of several years. I have a column "judy" (for Julian Day) with 0 beginning on Jan. 1st of every new year (I want to compare tendencies between years). However, in order to control for a leap year (2004), I simply need to subtract 1 from every judy value for the year

Syslog facility in Linux
Hi ! While browsing Linux manpages (man 3 syslog) I noticed that the manual says that the LOG_AUTH facility is deprecated use LOG_AUTHPRIV instead. Is there a good reason why OpenSSH doesn't have an option to use LOG_AUTHPRIV facility ? (Looks like that tcpd/telnet etc. use the AUTHPRIV facility (in RH6.2)). Shouldn't be too hard to add the AUTH_PRIV facility ? Cheers, -Jarno --

Generating series of distributions with the same skewness and different kurtosis or with same kurtosis and different skewness?
Dear R users, I hope to explain the concepts of skewness and kurtosis by generating series of distributions with same skewness and different kurtosis or with same kurtosis and different skewness, but it seems that i cannot find the right functions. I have searched the mailing list, but no answers were found. Is it possible to do that in R? Which function could be used? Thanks a lot. --
