Locking Problems with Tracker 97
We have encountered a locking problem with multi-user Tracker 97 against Tracker data files on a Samba server. I do not believe it is related to erroneous smb.conf settings. If two separate users attempt to edit the same record, Tracker refuses the second request if a Win95 server or NT server is used, but allows the second request if a Samba server is used. Subsequently, the data files under

NT4 and Samba (ref: newbie question)
Ariel, This area is a bit of a mystery to me too. I think the story is as follows and if it isn't please will someone who sees this correct me! Win95/98 and WinNT do not login to the server is the same way. Win95/98 works fine with a network login with Samba 1.9.18P10 and many previous versions, but WinNT requires a true NT Domain Controller to login. So with WinNT you cannot use server

Samba Wins server gives wrong address
Hello, I wonder if anyone knows if this is a limitation or a bug? We need to use a print service on a Win95 PC via smbclient. Smbclient uses wins and gets the wrong address. The wins.dat entries for the PC are: "OVERH2#03" 955147099 192.168.2.250 192.168.2.249 192.168.2.251 4R "OVERH2#20" 955147100 192.168.2.250 192.168.2.249 192.168.2.251 4R "OVERH2#00"

Security Modifications for Samba
I have submitted some samba mods to samba-bugs which others may be interested to have a look at or try. The mods enable certain security controls like "admin user", "create mask", "force create mode" etc to be set by directory rather than by service. With it, you can present users with a single service of Unix directories within which some directories and/or their

[LLVMdev] Hey, who said you could use Obsequi's code!
Just kidding. :-) Hi, I was just doing a Google search on my name and I ran across a site that actually had a reference to Obsequi a program I wrote almost three years ago now. I thought the program had been forgotten a long time ago (forgotten might not be the right word, I'm not sure if it was ever remembered). Anyway I was just wondering how John Criswell ever ran across such a low

Create mode, create mask etc...
I had no luck with my previous post, so I try again: Would someone please help me with the "create mode/mask" settings and/or others if needed, or point me to some docs. In the following 2 examples, I cannot find the correct settings: I use the [netlogon] share, and edit logon scripts there from my Windows machine. The group gets set to my user name's group (mi), execute by others

graphics library fltk
we still do not have dynamic graphics in R natively. i just found out about a widget library called fltk info is at www.fltk.org it has all the stuff r currently can do only through tcl/tk or (as i do it) excel: sliders, knobs, spinners and so on. it is multiplatform, there are production versions for unixen and windows, and there is a beta for macs. this could be a way of getting some of

winbindd to NT 4.0
Hi, I have a Samba server Version 3.0.14a-2. It has been working flawlessly for close to a year. I utilize winbindd to a NT4.0 domain to authenticate users to my Samba shares. All of a sudden, the shares are no longer accessible to Windows machines. An ls on an example directory shows: drwxrws--- 15 root 10000 4096 Dec 6 11:21 AC_Manuals This is wierd because the 10000 should show

sphericity calculation (more formulas?)
I believe that the following function is a good function for eyeballing sphericity. But, I can't find functions for tests anywhere (g-g or h-f). Anyone who wants to can feel free to use it. It is bad that R does not provide any tests for sphericity AND cannot do a MANOVA on repeated measures (although lme is an alternative add on package). One of these solutions must be provided in the

What Happened to my SAMBA? Permissions Issue
OK. Everything is going great for 4 years on my FC3 Samba Version 3.0.3-5. Now all of a sudden, when someone opens a Word/Excel file on a Samba share, it changes the user Owner to that user as well as modifies the permissions to r-x and leaves the group/permission bits/owner setting alone. I have the root directories for all shares with the u and g sticky bits set on, but it is not enforcing

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi, I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file: [root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/ [root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al total 1232 drwxrws---+ 8 root

Names starting with '@', '+' and '&' are interpreted using the same rules as described in the invalid users parameter. If this is empty (the default) then any user can login. If a username is in both this list and the invalid

exact relative positioning of lattice plots
Hello, I have two lattice plots for which panel.height is fixed. I am trying to position them in a column so that there is exactly half an inch of vertical space between them. This would be a simple task if I were not fixing panel.height. But given that I am, I can't find a way to put exactly half an inch of space between the plots. Is there a way? I've checked the Sarkar and

Two Questions
I have looked for answers to these two questions on Google, rsync mailing lists, and of course the rsync man page but seem to be coming up blank. First: What is the advantage of using the rsync daemon vs just rsync over ssh? I am hoping for a link to a webpage that details these differences. Second: How does rsync over ssh initiate itself on the remote machine? Here is what I mean. As I
