SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed. I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share. When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is Denied" when you try to access the

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on the network which was set up for several reasons. I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server, which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since the names are all entered statically. We have

Win 98
I am using samba-1.9.16p2-2 on Linux. Have used it for about 2 years with no problems. None. I have several Win95 units that access it. I loaded Win98 on one of the units and now I can browse the directories but I cannot enter any directory that requires a password. Win98 reports that the password is incorrect. I might add that Win98 also gets stuck in one of Microsofts loops in that since it

OpenSSH and support for KTH-Krb4
Hello, I have tried to compile openssh-3.1p1 and then two later snapshots. It seems that I can not have support for KTH-Krb4, according to this errorlist from make: gcc -o ssh ssh.o sshconnect.o sshconnect1.o sshconnect2.o sshtty.o readconf.o clientloop.o -L. -Lopenbsd-compat/ -R/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/local/lib -R/usr/local/lib -L/usr/athena/lib -R/usr/athena/lib -lssh

openssh 2.9p1 on Solaris 2.6 with AFS
Jan, maybe I should check the /afs information that you pointed me at in a subsequent email first, but I wanted to update you on what happened following this path: I did get some mileage out of both of your suggestions below, but still did not make it through (now working with openssh-2.9p2): gcc -o ssh ssh.o sshconnect.o sshconnect1.o sshconnect2.o sshtty.o readconf.o clientloop.o -L.

KTH krb4 and OpenSSL conflict building OpenSSH 3.0.2p1
Hi, I configured OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 with ./configure --disable-suid-ssh --with-pam --with-kerberos4=/usr/athena \ --with-afs=/usr/afsws --with-ipaddr-display \ --with-ssl-dir=/afs/bi/v/@sys/libraries/openssl/latest My "latest" OpenSSL is 0.9.6a. KTH krb4 is 1.1. When linking the binaries, the KTH krb4 libdes conflicts with the OpenSSL libdes. It seems to be possible to get around

NT4SP3 and encrypted passwords
Hello all, we use Samba to serve about 20 DOS/WfW/Win95 machines in 'security=share' mode. We use unix accounts as password validation, so I _know_ our Samba does not accept encrypted passwords. On Thursday, we added a NT4/SP3 box. I expected it not to logon before we made the plain-text password registry patch, but it did! It's a new NT installation (on a new AMD K6 box), so I
