win/linux connect problem
hi.. I have samba 2.2.1a on Mandrake 8.1, 2.4.17. My problem is a user from remote Win2k workstation can't see my shares when he wants to access my PC using my hostname. When accessing using my ip address, it works.. The error message in W2K is 'This user is not authorized to log in from this station' - or something like that.. Here's a part of my config. static libgcc issue on solaris 8
Hello all, little question. Has somebody already compiled samba on SunOS 5.8 because I cannot statically link libgcc libraries. I already tried "gcc -static-libgcc", added "-lgcc_s" to LIBS variable but always the same result. Below resulted compiled binary .. # ldd bin/ntlm_auth libthread.so.1 => /usr/lib/libthread.so.1 libsendfile.so.1 =>

Samba download Performance problems
Hi all, I had a few months ago problems with my linux server running slackware 8 and kernel 2.4.18 with samba 2.2.0a. I could not upload files on my server at more than 220 ko/s. This problem is now resolved with my recent upgrade of samba to version 2.2.5. I had to decrease SO_RCVBUF to 4096 in my smb.conf too. Between my previous value that was 8192 and the new one ( 4096 ) my upload increases

Hello again :) With POLLING enabled I experience about 10%-25% performance drop when copying files over network. Tested with both SAMBA and NFS. Is it normal? network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even dont know if it can be a samba-problem. When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice versa I get bad performance: 1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

re: hardware requirement asterisk
This is ifconfig on openbsd box: fxp0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 I think this output shows that the fxp0 interface is on simplex mode. The voice degradation I referred was by using xlite soft phone. I open 2 line similtaneously and dial to FWD and back to my incoming extension. Xlite is runnning on a w2k box with realtek 100M nic in auto mode. I can

mask question
Hi all, We are all using here a linux lan server with samba. We got unix and windows clients but I have some troubles with unix clients. I defined some shares with create mask = 0644. This works perfectly for windows and linux clients but when I list files on the remote lan server from my linux workstation, I don't see the real mask of the file. I always see the mask 0644 ( even if the file

Serious Slowness Issues with Printing
Samba Guru's: I need whatever help you all can provide. I'm at my wits end here with this problem, I've checked forums and the Samba docs and can't find anything. Sorry if this email is long and drawn out. We just put in a new Solaris 9 server running Samba 3.0.11 to replace a Solaris 8 server running Samba 2.0.7. All the client desktops are running Windows 2000 joined to a

[ronvdaal@zarathustra.linux666.com: Possible security issue with FreeBSD 5.4 jailing and BPF]
This message was sent to bugtraq today: While playing around with FreeBSD 5.4 and jailing I discovered that it was possible to put an ethernet interface into promiscious mode from within the jailed environment, allowing a packetsniffer to gather data not meant for the jailed box. This also affects FreeBSD 5.3 (tested) but not FreeBSD 4.x This can be reproduced on boxes where BPF support is

fxp: stalled transfers
Hello, after upgrading my system from 7.1-RELEASE to recent RELENG_7 I noticed stalled network transfers in certain cases. I have an Intel PRO/100 ethernet adapter (card=0x00408086 chip=0x12298086 rev=0x0c). In general networking works fine. I can ping hosts, surf on websites and so on. But if I send large files (>1 MB) to my server the transfer stalls after a few kilobytes. This concerns FTP

recent stability problems with fxp driver
I've spent the past four days or so updating machines here to 4.8/9-stable via cvsup, and have done a complete make buildworld/kernel on each machine (some SMP, some single processor). It seems something is broken with the latest fxp driver, on each machine (different mobos and hardware configs) heavy network traffic with fxp NICs causes timeouts and random kernel panics. First machine to
