Problems joining NT Domain
I am trying to get my linux box running slackware with kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.0 (full version not BETA) to join our NT domain. I first added to computer to the domain. Then I typed this (computer and domain names altered for protection): linux_computer:/usr/local/samba/bin# smbpasswd -j MY_DOMAIN -r MY_PDC Where linux_computer is the linux computer (like you needed that) MY_DOMAIN is the

Voip Jitter Buffer
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is) I'm working on a voip project with Speex and the only major design obstacle left (that I'm aware of) is the jitter buffer. Before I attempt to write something of my own I'd like to try out the jitter buffer functions in Speex's unstable release. Can anyone give me a basic run down of how the experimental jitter buffer is

Update A Compiled Version
I'm pretty new to compiling software, although I would rather compile my own Samba 4.0.0 server rather than wait for it to become available in the repositories of my distribution. How do you update compiled software. Like if I compile and install Samba 4.0.0, and then 4.0.1 comes out, Is there a way to update to that without starting from scratch and having to rebuild my domain? Thanks

Directory with large number of files
Hello all, I am trying to use Samba to replace an NT server that serves a directory with over 600,000 (yes over 1/2 million) files, with little success. As far as I can tell this is what is happening: Samba receives a request to open a file (say 12345678.doc), to find this file it spins through the directory, comparing file names and seeing if each file matches (doing an exact match and an 8.3

changing password from win95 fail
Hello, now I've set up a linux samba password server using Samba 1.9.18p4 on a linux 2.0.33. File and password serving works ok now, but I can't change my passwords with any Win95 utility. Samba always tells me "Wrong password" an d in the logs it says: "Disallowing access to user due to null password check_lanman:password: old password doesn't match" But I know

No subject
I have been reading John blair's book "SAMBA:Intergrating UNIX and Windows". There is a reference in the book to Authenticationoptions on page 66 for LAN Encripyted Password Support. I found these lines a version 1.9.16p11 # This is for SMB encrypted (lanman) passwords. # you may wish to add -DREPLACE_GETPASS if your getpass() is limited # to 8 chars # DES_BASE=/usr/local/libdes #

Directory with large number of files (follow-up)
Hello all, This is a follow-up to my post a few weeks ago about poor performance when serving files from a directory with a large number of files (in this case over 600 000 files). I traced this down to two places in the code: 1) The trans2 routine get_lanman2_dir_entry loops through the entire directory looking for possible matches. I can see why this is the best idea for the general case

HP-UX 11i and Inability to run Samba 3.0.x
I have been attempting to run the various permutations of Samba 3.0.x on my site now for a couple of weeks, and I can find no way to get it working properly. Either no one else is testing it, or there is something wrong with some manner of settings on my machines -- and they are of multiple classes adn different installs. I have one G70, one D380, and one 9000 N-class, and all of them exhibit this

Hi all, I am running a samba server (2.0.3) in a small eth-based home network. There is only one win client (NT workstation, Sp4). The samba box ist set up with wins support enabled and the NT box? wins server entry points to samba server. Everything works fine: no error messages neither server nor client. The server shows up immediately in the NT?s network neigborhood. Browsing is fast. !!But

Hello, I don't know if this is a bug of some sort, but I am running out of ideas. O/S: FreeBSD 2.2.5-stable Samba: Version 1.9.17p4 Clients: Win95 only I am trying to get Samba to accpet Win95 clients logging on my FreeBSD Samba domain logon server. If I empty (null) my password I can login, if I have an encrypted password (/etc/passwd) it will not work. I will get: "You have
