'Trying usename <machinename>'
Connecting from WinNT to Samba 1.9.18p10 I have another question: When I have a drive map to my Unix homedir, which should be automatically reconnected during login, I get an error that my password is not correct. If I control the log file of Samba I see: 1998/10/08 17:37:43 changed root to / open_oplock_ipc: opening loopback UDP socket. bind succeeded on port 0 open_oplock ipc: pid = 33822,

Net help analyzing logfiles: Printer permissions in Domain
Hi! I am trying to print from an NT machine to a simple samba printer. That NT machine is the PDC and the samba box is having logins authenticated by the NT box. When I try to access the printer with my own username, it works fine. As soon as I have the account that is destined to do the printing print, it can't log in. I have included my smb.conf file and two log excerpts - one successful,

Problem with smbpasswd
Hi all, I've just set up password encryption using 1.9.18p4. I compiled with NO ALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD option because compilation didn't work (I'm using HP-UX 10.20). Everything seems to be working correctly instead of a 'normal' user trying to change his (samba-) password using smbpasswd (root can change any password). The messages I receive are as follows: Old SMB password:

smbpasswd and nmbd don't call my password program
I have samba-1.9.18p7-2 smb.conf says: # Configure smbpasswd passwd chat debug = yes # Default passwd chat = *old*password* %o\n *new*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n *changed* passwd program = /usr/bin/yppasswd Using smbpasswd, my encrypted password is changed, but yppasswd is not even touched (as per ls -lu /usr/bin/yppasswd). Furthermore, running smbd with -d 100 didn't seem to show

NT can't print while Win 95 can?
Hello all, I have a printing problem with NT, Samba 1.9.18p8 and Debian Linux 1.3 (Kernel 2.0.32). I defined a printer share, which works fine with Win95, but it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the printserver, but it can not print to the same

username map broken in 1.9.18p8???
I'm having problems with the username map feature of Samba. Everything was running fine in 1.9.18p7. After the upgrade to 1.9.18p8, the mapping no longer occurs, and I see errors in the log file: password server CSUNTS rejected the password get_smbpwd_entry: unable to open file /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd I tried going back to 1.9.18p7, and sure enough things work like a charm. Hi everybody, I'm using dovecot-2.2.11 on NetBSD. After a kernel upgrade, while using the same dovecot binaries (they were working perfectly until today), I'm experiencing this error (more log at the end of my email): BUG: Authentication client sent unknown handshake command: REQUEST?227672066?18807?2?c717631d60216b2e9ec57a2fa69674b8?session_pid=16343?... smbpasswd fails with unix password sync enabled
Hello again, I would like to thank Giant Wang and Miquel Bonastre for their responses to my query in "Samba Digest 1734" regarding simultaneous passwd changing for users via Samba. Their comments were helpful, but have not solved the problem. For those who do not have a back log of the Digests, the problem is that with unix password sync=yes, users are not able to change their own

smbpasswd fails on Samba 2.0.3, HPUX 10.20
I have been unable to make smbpasswd work on my new Samba version 2.0.3 (HPUX 10.20). The smb.conf was modified from a working version on Linux (version 1.9.18p8). The relevant (I hope) output from smbpasswd, smb.log and testparms follow below. Are the log messages about "Couldn't set effective gid to -24 currently set to (real=0,eff=0)" and "Can't become connected

1.2.10: namespaces and still no luck
Hi, I'm trying to set Dovecot up in a way that is compatible with console usage of the same mailboxes (ie, w/o IMAP). My mailboxen are almost all maildirs (I can ignore all other formats), and are laid out as follows: INBOX = ~/Maildir All other folders are maildirs in ~/Mail Eg. ~/Mail/archive, ~/Mail/sent, ~/Mail/some-mailing-list I configured this, along the lines of
