Testing to see if drive mounted with smbmount
Mates, I have set up a backup scheme that uses rsync to backup shares from my mdk 7.2 box to an old ibm box that is running win95. Basically I use "smbmount //backup/d /mnt/backup -o password=" to mount the ibm's d:/ as /mnt/backup. How can I test to see if the drive is still mounted without using another smbmount call prior to starting the rsync backup. smbmount works for this,

smbmount -- what am I missing?
I wish to mount a Win95 share on my linux machine. I can use smbclient to get to the shared disk, using this format: smbclient //win95.machine/share <password> The win95.machine is listed in my /etc/hosts file. I've tried every permutation of the smbmount syntax that I've been able to find in the documentation, dejanews, or this mailing list. Perhaps I've missed some. I

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0. Both machines are running Samba 2.05a. When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem mounting the smb service. RedHat 6.0: works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456` Slacware 7.0: failed: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c

how to get the true used capacity of the volume
I create a volume?and mounted it, and use df command to view the volume Available and used . After some testing? I think the used information displayed by df is the sum of the capacities of the disks on which the brick is located. Not the sum of the used of the brick directory. ?I know the Available capacity, is the physical space of all disks if not quota? but used of space should not be sum of

smbmount issues on a Win95 drive
I am having some problems when I have a Win95 share mounted using smbmount. In some directories not all the directory entries are showing up for an ls. I can traverse the directories if I know what they are. I am running Debian Linux 2.0(libc6) with kernel 2.0.34 and samba 1.9.18p8. I have smbfs and the win95 bug workaround compiled into the kernel. Is there a solution to this? Also, I am

how to get the true used capacity of the volume
You will get weird results like these if you put two bricks on a single filesystem. In use case one (presumably replica 2) the data gets written to both bricks, which means there are two copies on the disk and so twice the disk space consumed. In the second case there is some overhead involved in creating a volume that will consume some disk space even absent any user data added, how much will

Samba server rejects (Win95) request
Hi, I am new to Linux, I am using RedHat version 6.0 and Samba 2.0.5a. I try to set up a Samba Server for a LAN. So far everything (i.e. installation) worked fine, I installed samba from .rpm and nmbd, smbd is started at boot successfully. I can see the Samba server in the Windows95 network environment, but when I doubleclick on it or when I try to smbmount a service from another Linux machine I

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes: HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement) I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box. duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 . I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors) Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

linux 2.2.x and smbmount 2.0.5a: Win95 bugfix?
I have become quite confused about the interaction of the kernel versions and the different versions of Samba and smbmount. I have just upgraded to a 2.2 kernel. 'make menuconfig' gave no choice by which to enable the Win95 bug workaround. At the same time, smbmount 2.0.5a, which seems to be the proper one for a 2.2 kernel (it's the latest provided by Debian, under the name

problem with smbmount
Hello all. I've a <BIG> problem with smbmount. I use samba 2.0.5a on a linux slackware 4.0 (kernel 2.2.6) machine and a WinNT Server 4.0 (sp3, sp4, sp5...). When I mount a WinNT share (i.e. test) with command "smbmount //winntserver/test /mnt" I see a complete confusion on the file(s) date in /mnt directory. I read dates from 1900 since 2100. If I "touch" to create

Win95 and Smbmount
Hi, When I "smbmount" a shareable drive on my linux box, the result of the "ls" command is often false. (Kernel is compiled with "SMB Win95 bug work around" and "SMB filesystems support", Linux 2.0.34, RedHat 5.1, Samba 1.9.18p5) What can I do to solve my problem ??? Thanks a lot for your help. Michel

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi, I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0 with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac ran MacOS9. The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb. Here's what happened: [root@sonal ~]# smbmount

Too many open files in system?
Okay, I found a SRPM of samba-1.9.18p3-51 which included smbmount. I did a rpm --rebuild on it on my RH5 PC. Now, apparently I can mount Win95 shares with: smbmount "\\\daisy\c" -c 'mount /daisy' -N This appears to work, but I get an error about not having enough backslashes if I use less than three. When I try to look into the now "mounted" filesystem with ls, I get

df does not show full volume capacity after update to 3.12.4
Sam, For du ?sh on my newer volume, the result is 161T. The sum of the Used space in the df ?h output for all the bricks is ~163T. Close enough for me to believe everything is there. The total for used space in the df ?h of the mountpoint it 83T, roughly half what is used. Relevant lines from df ?h on server-A: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 59T 42T
