Compiling Samba on Sun Solaris 2.5.1
I just downloaded samba-1.9.18p8 and tried to compile it on Sun Solaris
2.5.1. I found out from the note in Makefile that I can not use the cc
compiler coming from Solaris. It requires gcc, but I do not have gcc on
my system. Spent about an hour on the Internet, but did not find
suitable gcc for Sun Solaris.
Can anyone who has compiled samba on Sun Solaris share your experience?
Where can I

Samba replacing NFS
Hi,
I have a number of web servers that mount their /htdocs (and /log and
/cgi-bin) directories from a large file server. I am currently using NFS
for this. The web servers are Linux, the file server a Sun E450. NFS seems
dreadfully slow, and I keep reading about how it doesn't do file locking.
Is there a good reason not to simply use samba, and share the volumes with
samba from the Sun, and

Problems with smbmount
I have a problem. When I mount my CD (witch is on WIN97 machine) using
smbmount I do not see all files in all dirs. If dir have more then, let say,
100 files (it is not the same every time), I do not see all files.
This is a problem because on my Linux box I do not have CD-ROM, so if I have
to install some packages I first have to copy rpm files on disk, and then
install them witch is annoying.

Asterisk on a single phone line
I have asterisk installed on a linux workstation (1 phone in and 1 phone
out jack).
I want to configure Asterisk to show me any available data about any
calls (i.e. phone numbers, caller-id) as well as screen unwanted calls
to voice mail.
My first question is, what (if any) specific kernel support do I need? I
build my own kernels and I usually turn off telephony and isdn support.
Second, which

Join 2012 Server to Samba 4.11
Hello Louis,
Yes, I do talk about join a 2012 Windows server as a secondary AD-DC, my bad, I wasn't clear enough here.
About Samba version, we can assume that it's a Samba 4.11 with 2012 schema.
That's quite a good news here, I will test ASAP. I just wanted to know it anybody had problems beforehand;
Thanks a lot :)

Join 2012 Server to Samba 4.11
Hello all,
Is it possible to join a 2012 Windows Server to a Samba 4.11 Domain ?
We know there's issue by 2012 Windows Server because there's a wmi request before attempt to join domain.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Server_2012_/_2012_R2_DC_to_a_Samba_AD
But 4.11 can have a 2012 schema, isn't it ? So, does the issue is solved by emulating a wmi request or

Restrict logon to groups of workstations II
After sending my first email, I tried to modify auth/auth_sam.c to
allow groups of workstations to the workstations list. And, for my
surprise (?!) it was quite easy. And worked fine. I use LDAP as sam
backed, and for unix accounts and groups database. I create a test group
"stations" and putted there into two of my workstations. Then I defined
the "sambaUserWorkstations"

restrict logon to groups of workstations
Hi.
I see the "workstations" parameter (associated to a Sam Account) is
used to restrict logon of that user to the listed workstations. But it
would be nice to restrict logon based on list of groups of workstations,
too. Just like it is possible to list unix groups or netgroups for
parameters like "valid users". Does the Samba Team think about to extend

Booting Diskless Workstations
I made a post in the Fedora list that didn't yield much help regarding this.
I need to use a CentOS5.1 server to remotely boot a few Fedora 9
workstations. I have the option of using straight PXE, or even reflashing
gPXE to the LOM for the clients. What I am interested in knowing is the
best approach to this.
1. Should I just do iSCSI backed diskless setups? Probably doesn't scale well.

Dynamic updating DNS with win2K workstations
My office network has a RH 7.3 server running Bind 9, Samba, WINS for
NetBIOS name resolution, ten+ Win2K workstations, and uses DHCP from the
Linksys router to hand out IPs for the workstations.
Is there any way to do dynamic DNS updates so that the workstations' IPs
are tracked in DNS?

Login only to permitted workstations
Hi everybody, i'm interested in forcing users to login only to certain
machines. I saw in the output of pdbedit -Lv the voice "Workstations:",
but i can't find a command to change this value... is it what i need? Is
it there for future use?
Thanks Matteo
