Heckman estimation
Hi, I wrote a function to perform a two-step Heckman (also known as "heckit") estimation. This function is mainly a wrapper function to "glm" (1st step probit estimation) and "lm" (2nd step OLS estimation). Though this function is not perfect yet, it is IMHO already very useful. Since there were some questions about Heckmann estimation in this list, I would like

[R] Free Software Application for UNIX/Linux and Microsoft Windows
Dear Michael Camann, My concern was after having a hetero-computing environment for many years, I found that I had to keep an old version of Microsoft Windows based applications to be able to interact with my constituents. This at times can become very expensive. I have had to limit my budget on the UNIX/Linux platform to compensate for Microsoft Windows based applications. With Open Office

[PATCH] Fix samba daemon startup with systemd
I totaly not agree with that blog. And this... (quote from site.) Yes, you read right: what the Devuan developers are doing is creating stability. Think about it not in a few repeating systemd bugs or about the insecurity caused by a huge, monolithic piece of software running with root privileges. Why do people favor Linux on servers over Windows? It is very easy: people don't use Windows,

SMART3000RM2U?
Can anyone point me to information for getting the Tripplite SMART3000RM2U to work with NUT? Our newer Tripplite units seem to work with the usbhid-ups driver, but these older ones seem to need something different. So far I have had little success getting tripplite_usb to work. choosing between Poisson regression models: no interactions vs. interactions
R gurus, I'm working on data analysis for a small project. My response variable is total vines per tree (median = 0, mean = 1.65, min = 0, max = 24). My predictors are two categorical variables (four sites and four species) and one continuous (tree diameter at breast height (DBH)). The main question I'm attempting to answer is whether or not the species identity of a tree has

Error message when using zero-inflated count regression model in package zicounts
I have data on number of vines per tree for ~550 trees. Over half of the trees did not have any vines and the data is fairly skewed (median = 0, mean = 1.158, 3rd qu. = 1.000). I am attempting to investigate whether plot location (four sites), species (I'm using only the four most common species), or tree dbh has a significant influence on the number of vines per tree. When I

NT4 performance in Netware primary login.
Samba Gurus. We run W95 and NT4 clients in a mixed environment of Netware and Samba on SGs. Netware is the primary network login(over IPX/SPX). Am using clear text passwords for the Samba network. NT 4 is patched up to SR 3. Samba version 1.9.18p7. Problem. Samba performance from NT 4 machines is VERY slow. Many orders of magnitude slower than W95 which is very good. This performance

Flattening lists and environments (was: "how to flatten a list to the same level?")
Dear list, I came up with a two functions that flatten arbitrary deeply nested lists (as long as they're named; not tested for unnamed) and environments (see attachment; 'flatten_examples.txt' contains some examples). The paradigm is somewhat similar to that implemented in 'unlist()', yet extends it. I would have very much liked to build upon the superfast functionality

Package 'fCalendar'
Dear, I'm a master student mathematics at university Gent, who's writing a thesis about vines and copula's. I'm in trouble with the package 'fCalendar' which I need for running 'QRMlib'. The problem is that 'fCalendar' doesn't have a namespace. I need to use R.2.14.1 because I also need the package 'vines' which only works for R.2.14.1. I'm

Imaptest stalls when removing msgs argument
I have had this imaptest[1] stall. I compared this command with what you have on the website and I was a bit surprised that what is on the website is working. What I have noticed is that if you remove this msgs argument, the imaptest stalls. I am not sure if this is according to design, but one might expect that specifying a secs, makes specifying msgs redundant? [1] imaptest - append=100,0

RE: samba digest, Vol 1 #2098 - 22 msgs
If you go to http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Networking/Misc/samba-2.2.3a/ you can at least get the precompiled version of 2.2.3a for 10.20 if that will work for you. Otherwise roll your own. changing a list element's name during execution in lapply - possible?
Happy New Year, all! I want to do calculations on each element of a list l, but i want the returned list element to be named differently after the calculation. Is it possible to do the renaming somehow within the lapply call? l <- list(a=NA, b=NA) lapply(l, function(x) {names(x) <- "new name"; return(x) }) This does not work, any ideas? TIA
