What are my smbd's doing ? (was Re: secrets.tdb locking fun!)
Hi all, We're still suffering here with odd performance issues on our Samba 3.0.24 install here on our big chunky Solaris 9 box. The user perceived issue is slow performance (whilst browsing in Windows Explorer, or opening files from within applications etc.etc.) The obvious symptom on the server is a collection of smbd's at the top of the 'top' listing. 4 or 5 or so taking

Determining Local IP Address within .profile
Hi ! I haven't found an easy solution to determine the local IP to which the remote SSH client is connected to the local SSHD. We use MC/Serviceguard which can create many Interfaces where a remote client could connect and we like to know within .profile which interface the client has connected to. I've looked at the sourcecode and maybe the following could do something I described :

This was sent to me by someone on the R-list ( I don't know her ) but I don't have time to look at this right now so I told her I would send it to the R-list because she said it keeps getting bounced when she sends it. #======================================================================= ==================================================================== I am a bit confused with

Audio from fifo
My first guess about the problem would be that the programs want to process the stuff in a different order, e.g. mplayer wants to output some sound before anymore video and encoder_example wants to receive some video before anymore sound. This could easily depend on the order of stuff in the file mplayer is reading. I guess something similar could happen for opening the pipes as well. The

Use predict.lm
Hi All, I created a two variable lm() model slm<-lm(y[1:3000,8]~y[1:3000,12]+y[1:3000,15]) I made two predictions predict(slm,newdata=y[201:3200,]) predict(slm,newdata=y[601:3600,]) there is no error message for either of these. the results are identical, and identical to slm$fitted as well. if this is not the right way to apply the model coefficients to a new set of inputs, what is

case-insensitive ZIP
A development note: In the function "install.packages", it would be helpful to those of us who have atypical installations and install manually from ZIP files to have pkgnames <- sub("\\.zip$", "", pkgnames) replaced with pkgnames <- sub("\\.zip$", "", pkgnames, ignore.case = TRUE) because the contributed zipfiles are ZIPfiles. Regarding RDCOMClient package
Hi all, We currently faced a problem about how to pass a matrix with different types to a COM function call thru the RDCOMClient asCOMArray(). As we all know that matrix in R can't hold of elements with different types. So we managed to create a matrix of lists: rates <- matrix(

problem with optim: (list) object cannot be coerced to 'double'
Hi, I am trying to use optim to solve a heavy calibration problem. I supply the parameters in vector form. But before entering my target The call is simply: optim(par = parameters, fn = SumLSQ, method = "Nelder-Mead") the function SumLSQ is simply: SumLSQ<-function(parameters, data = timeseries){ print("sumLSQ") nbseries =

old smbd's block new connections
Hi, We recenly upgraded to verion 1.9.18p4 on Digital Unix 4.0b (I believe our previous smb version was 1.9.16). Occasionally we have reports of one of our users having their w95 logon script freeze at the point where it tries to mount their samba drives. I have found I can recreate this problem by: - login to W95. mount a drive from the samba server - turn of the W95 pc. smbd

Culling dead smbd's?
I seem to be having a problem whereby every time a user fails to authenticate with Samba, smbd stops responding to that particular client and has to be restarted. Apart from 'what on earth's going wrong with my authentication', there are two things I'd like to know: firstly, is it the main smbd/all smbd's which lock, and secondly, if not is there any way (on SuSE Linux) to

How can I shade the background area of a zoo time series object between specific dates?
Dear list members, How can I shade the background area of a zoo time series object between specific dates? eg. library(tseries) library(zoo) SP500<-get.hist.quote("^GSPC", start = "1990-01-01", quote = "Close") plot(SP500) How can I produce the same plot but with a (say) red background between 2007-04-12 and 2008-05-14 ?

not understanding a do.call
I did a ?do.call but i don't think i understand it. if a, b,c,d are numeric vectors then could someone explain the difference between do.call("cbind",list(a,b,c,d)) and cbind(a,b,c,d). or point to an archive on it. the return value of cbind is a matrix or dataframe depending on what is sent in but i don't understand wheen it would be useful to use do.call. i realize it
