SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed. I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share. When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is Denied" when you try to access the

Errors when NT4sp3 is the client; 95 works
I am trying to get Samba 2.0.3 up on MacOSXServer (which is BSD 4.4). I can't get NT to recognize samba shares. Samba is running as security=server, pointed to an NT PDC for security (using the netbios name; should this be by ip address?); passwords are encrypted. I can use smbclient to attach to my own samba shares. I can also attach to other NT shares as a client and view network lists. I

1.9.18p10: Incompete directory listing from WfW 3.11
Hi, we're having quite a strange problem with our Linux samba (1.9.18p10) server: when doing a directory list from a Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Client all files an directories appear except <.> and <..>. While this is not a serious problem when using ?dir?, some applications (e.g. Ami Pro 3.1) seem to rely on these entries. In the file dialogues this particular application does

File copy speed differences... writing to SAMBA is faster than reading from it??!
Here's an interesting thing I notice between NTSP3 and Linux 2.0.33+ w/samba 1.9.18p8 [TCP_NODELAY, read prediction on, SND and RCV buffers to 64k, though I've tried 16k, 32K, 64k, max size 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k, no difference] When I copy a file from any share to my NT's HD, I get perhaps 280KB/sec. When I copy from NT HD to Samba share, I get almost 1MB/sec. Doesn't matter where

Win 98
I am using samba-1.9.16p2-2 on Linux. Have used it for about 2 years with no problems. None. I have several Win95 units that access it. I loaded Win98 on one of the units and now I can browse the directories but I cannot enter any directory that requires a password. Win98 reports that the password is incorrect. I might add that Win98 also gets stuck in one of Microsofts loops in that since it

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives and I decided not to do it diskless. So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem. I do this. 1.- I did booting images with bootware proms. 2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a given time? I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN). I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs assume

Questions about %a macro - Documentation bug.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I know that %a is for architecture. Either Samba, Windows XP, Windows 2K, Windows For Workgroups or Windows 95. I also know that %a will return "WinXP" when the client architecture is Windows XP. I know this because all of my current boxes are XP Pro boxes and testing it is pretty easy if you have a box of that type available. Problem is

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet 127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

Browsing on WfW
Dear All, we have shared a directory which includes several subdirectories from a Unix server. Browsing the subdirectories on an Windows 3.11 Client leads to an unestimated result. All files in the second subdirectory-level are invisible. The files in the first subdirectory-level could be accessed normally. This is only a problem on WfW Clients, browsing the directories on a NT host leads to no

Howto hook up a Wfw 3.11 client to browse Samba shares on Solaris boxes...
Hi, Sorry if this is the documentation somewhere; however, I need a little tutorial help on howto configure a Wfw client for Samba: I have two samba servers, 1.9.18p2, on a couple of our Sun machines running Solaris 2.3. I know how to gain access from various Win95 machines in our group; however, I was requested to set up access for a Win3.11 machine today, and I'm kinda stumped. This

4.2.14 (or newer) support "Windows for Workgroups 3.1a"?
There may be various "signing" parameters that you may need to set to "no"  on the samba PDC. I would also disable SMB3.   Windows 10 does support SMB3 but (in my experience) Samba does not properly implement it, so you will get problems.  Windows 7 does not support SMB3 so will fall back to SMB2 anyway. I suspect at this point making Windows 7 and Windows 3.11 interact

cygwin rsync performance and bandwidth between two w2003 servers
I have two Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server with 2x 3,0 GHz P4 and 4 GB RAM. On each server rsync runs as cygwin daemon (rsync version 2.6.6; protocol version 29). The two servers are connected through a 2 MBit VPN link. When I sync a single large file or a whole directory, rsync only uses 50% of the available bandwidth. When I do the same between windows and linux server, rsync takes the

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] Do not generate nopl instruction on CPUs that don't support it.
Please include a testcase with the patch. gas uses " nopl 0x0(%eax)" for k6_2. Are you sure it is a gas bug? [LLVMdev] [PATCH] Do not generate nopl instruction on CPUs that don't support it.
Hi This patch fixes code generation bug - 586-class CPUs don't support the nopl instruction and some 686-class CPUs don't support it too. I created bug 17792 for that. BTW. I think you should also optimize padding on these CPUs - instead of a stream of 0x90 nops, you should generate variants of "lea (%esi), %esi" instruction like gcc. This patch disables generation of
