Solaris/Samba/printing question
Hi all, This is sort of mundane but users want to know how to get their userid's on the banner sheet when they print to a Unix box running samba. The printer prints out my userid (of course, I have a userid on the Unix box) but everyone else has guest. smb.conf has "guest" as the userid to print but how does my name get on the banner? Is this even possible without users having

Anonymous printing and trouble with MS cd's ....
Hello all ... I have samba 1.9.18p4 set up and working well from a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. I'm using encrypted passwords, and would like to find some way for anonymous NT/95 clients to connect to our server and use our printers (without having to log in or use any special user names). Everyone who works on-site already has Unix and Samba logins, so there is no trouble there .... it's

HELP -- upgrade to 1.9.18p8 causing print/disk trouble ..."
Hello Jim, I've installed samba-1.9.18p8 some months ago. Everything worked find till yesterday. My PCs went in a similar problem as yours. If I want to connect to a Networkprinter (my samba is the printserver for the PC) it takes a verly long time (10 Minutes) till I get any response from my printer. If I want to print it takes a very long time too to get the dialog with the right printer.

smbclient XP printing issues NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I am running the latest SCO unix and samba. I have multiple windows xp machines with shared printers that don't seem to be working. I have win 9x clients that have no problem. I even had some NT 4.0 boxes that worked fine, but not xp. Here is the error I'm getting: # smbclient -L chrisb added interface ip=100.1.1.7 bcast=100.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0 Password:

Samba 3.0.7, print banner pages
Greetings, I recently upgraded my print server from Samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.7 and all is working well except banner pages for the print jobs. I am getting them now an I don't want them. This is under Sun Solaris 9 using the stock LP spooler. In my smb.conf I have had set (for years now) print commands of like the following: print command = lp -dnodis2 -c -o nobanner -s %s; rm %s The

shared printer won't print
Hi everyone, I have a properly configured printer (with cups) attached to the computer running the samba server. It prints when issued within the command line (lp). When I try to print via samba, the printer doesn't react. I have configured the smb.conf using the man page of cupsaddsmb. The samba log files don't report anything at all (tried to turn the verbose loggin but failed). The

File name in the print command
Hi, I just want to ask you if someone have had this problem, if this is a bug, a "feature" or the expected behavior. We use Samba 1.9.18p10 on slackware linux as a print server. This print server is dedicated to students so we print a banner with every print job in order to be able to distinguish the beginning and ending of a students job. The problem appears when we

Printing from Linux -> NT with banners
Last week I sent a question here about suppressing NT's banners, so that a LPR->SMB gateway running on Linux could provide its own banner pages. I got around that problem by having the NT guys create me a new queue, with headers suppressed, but found to my surprise that merely omitting "sh" in /etc/printcap did not cause Linux to print header sheets, when using RedHat's

samba inconsistent printing behavior
Hello all. I've set up a Samba server on a Sun E280 box running Solaris 8. The server is part of a domain. I am having some problems printing. I can setup the printers on the Windows NT workstations using the Add Printer wizard. However, when I try to print I get inconsistent results. After installing the printer the workstation has to be restarted (sometimes more than once) before anything

Printing banners
Hi I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a UnixWare 7.1.3 box. I'd set up the Samba printer shares, and it seemed to be working fine (only live for a couple of weeks). However, I've just added some heavy users, and the printer daemon keeps bombing out. I'd configured the printers to use lpr, but someone suggested I should use lp, so I thought I'd give this a go at the weekend.

Samba Cups Windows 98 Raw Printing - need help
Hello - I am trying to use Samba and Cups to serve a file share and a "raw" printer to a Windows 98 client. I am using Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.6.12, Samba 3.0.14a, and Cups 1.1.23. I can access the data share from the Samba server, but the printer share does not show up when I try to use it, even if I specifically type in the name of the share (\\data_dog\win98_photosmart) it still

HELP -- upgrade to 1.9.18p8 causing print/disk trouble ...
I recently upgraded all our site's samba servers to 1.9.18p8, and I seem to be having many strange problems where they didn't exist before. I haven't made any changes to smb.conf. The biggest trouble I seem to have is that people can no longer access printers ... NT/95 just gives a generic "path to server not available" message. Some nodes even have trouble connecting

Suppressing headers, printing via NT
I've just set up lpd to print to a postscript printer attached to an NT server, using the Redhat 5.2 version of the smbprint command. Eventually I'd like this machine to be the department's standard lpr->SMB gateway. It works perfectly, except that since smbclient always logs onto the NT server with the same ID, no matter who prints the job, the same NT-generated banner page gets

Windows won't recognize hostname of server
I'm trying to add a samba server to our company network. ?The samba version is 3.0.10 running on Fedora Core 1. I posted this question a week ago but only one person responded saying he would help me but then he disappeared and nobody else responded. The problem I'm having is the Windows computers (XP and 2000) that are trying to connect to the server won't recognize the hostname of

The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials
I have a different Unix userid for each project I'm working on, so I need to provide a different userid/password combination for each drive I map to my NT 4.0 SP3 system. But, whenever I try to supply a different userid in the "Connect As" box and hit "OK", I get the message: The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials Something I read in the

Printing to remote usb printer
My networked printer has developed a fault and has to be returned to the manufacturer, so I have to go back to a usb printer attached to my file server. In the past I worked happily with a remote printer, but I'm having no success at all today, and could do with some prompting. /var/log/cups/error_log says: I [02/Jun/2008:17:02:21 +0100] [Job 276] Adding start banner page
