ppp and Samba
I'm setting up a dialin server using our Linux server which runs Samba and authenticates against Windows 95 and NT 4 Workstation clients. I need to set it up to run the login script and map the Samba shares across the dialin connection as most of the remote users don't know ftp and telnet. At present, logging in with NT brings up the following message: NetBEUI CP reported error 733: The

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone. I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2 , which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found. # route -n Kernel IP routing

Samba over IPX/NetBeui
Hello: Is it possible to run SAMBA over IPX/NetBeui? (I will thank any suggestion) I hava an small LAN of 3 computers, connected to the Internet through a Cable-modem with DHCP (the cablemodem and the computers are all connected to a hub). The CableModem assigns every computer a random public IP adress, but usually from diferent range (ie: 212.78.x.x, 62.57.x.x, etc), so I cannot get SAMBA or

using pam_winbind to authenticate PPP?
I'm trying to set up a Linux-based dialin server on our company network. I'd like to have PPP authenticate using winbindd, if possible. I feel like I've almost gotten it to work, but I can't quite get there. Files: /etc/pam.d/ppp: #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_nologin.so auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_winbind.so account required

password stuff
Greetings All: I hope everyone had a fun Halloween weekend (I carved 4 big pumpkins and gave out a bucket full of rubber eyeballs and stuff). I'm hoping somebody can explain the password behavior I've been seeing (and a couple of other things). Here's my setup: An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30,

SAMBA digest 1812
Hi samba list members, Firstly, I've been using Samba for some while now and would to thank the Samba team for such a brilliant effort. I've got a Samba server running on a Linux box for a client (around 25-30 users) which has been running nearly 90 days now without any serious hitches at all. The client is incredibly impressed, over the moon, etc ... so it's probably time to pay up

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your advice. Situation: I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

NT4 Help.
Howdy, I'm mailing here as a last resort, replies off the list would probably be better. I have a samba box which is our main fileserver, It has been using NetBEUI and working away happily. The server is just serving shared drives, no logons or anything required. I've been reading the docs for a while and yesterday I thought that I would remove the IPX/SPX and NetBEUI Stacks from the

aDSL on ppp0 and dialin ppp
Hi all .... I Have installed Bering LRP on Many sites and I am very pleased with the capabilites of shorewall. Howerver I came across a prob that I am unaware ot its solution. Using shorewall 2.0.2f Kernel 2.4.24 On one Site LRP box serves internet outgoing connections through ( static IP ) a DSL line AND an incoming dial-in PPP conection. My shorewall configuration Is based upon the fact

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Sometime cannot connect to samba server, Why ?
I have posted this question 3-4 weeks ago, but still get no response. In my environment, I have one Linux box running Samba 1.8.18p5, and there are about 20 Win95 clients which is in the same network. The porblem I usually encountered is when I click on the samba server icon in the NN icon, sometime I can get thru without any problem. However, there are also many times that I got error message

Looking for Large Scale SAMBA Install Success / Failure Stories
Samba Users, I am looking for a Large Scale SAMBA success or failure story. I have been using Samba for a long time without any issues, however replacing many Netware servers with Linux/Solaris running Samba is a different story. Here is what is running through my mind 1. Novell 4.x causes a never ending stream of problems, including attacking and flooding the network with NDS tree fragments.

From client PCs (win98 > and winnt 4.0) I am able to see my samba server in net hood. I > am able to browse the shared filesystems. I am able to map > drives. Machines not disappearing from browse list
Hello, we are using "samba-2.0.6" (running on linux-2.2.14 machine). On our client machines we use "Windows 9x". There are 2 network segments: Segment 1 (192.168.1.0): - 13 Win95 client machines - 1 samba-2.0.6 server ("fsa01") which is WINS, DMB and LMB in its network segment (192.168.1.0). This samba is also the login server for our Win9x clients. Segment 2

Wine and NetBEUI
Hello, A client of mine has this ancient software called VideoPrinter (working on Win98) and an ancient hardware that connects to the PC through both LAN cable and serial (COM) cable. I decided to give this software a try with wine 0.9.60 running on Slackware 12, kernel 2.6.23.4. The software installs without problems and after adding the appropriate registry keys the COM is recognized. But the

I am running Samba 2.2.8a on solaris 5.7 machines. I have had 2 subnet working just fine for years. I'm trying to add a 3rd subnet. I am having a problem with my XP machines on a third subnet. I have changed the registry so: requiresignorseal = 0 and requiresecurechannel = 0 and rebooted. and Enable NetBIOS over TCPIP is set. I have two XP machines one with NETBEUI install and one without

Samba and netbeui
Hello all, There is still a use for netbeui (non-routed protocol) in the network. If you are using a VPN client that does not allow split tunneling, you can still access printers on another local system with netbeui. I would like to remove the windows system and have my print shares on my Linux system with Samba. Is all consideration of netbeui within the Linux/Samba environment gone?
