differing access permissions
Am I blind?
I think that I must be blind. I have been trying to export a share
using Samba in such a way that one group of people can access it read
only, and another can access it in writable mode. I can do this all day
long if I use different share names, but what I am wanting to do is to
allow access from multiple users to a single share name, in such a way
that those multiple users can have

Newbie to Samba - getting '^M' characters from NT into PVCS o n UN IX
Hello Tony,
Samba isn't the 'culprit', just the media used. Samba does NOT insert
anything into the files that you copy over or have an application create
on a samba share.
The issue is that you are using a PC program to check out/modify the files,
and pc os'es (Win/dos, i mean) use crlf as a ascii line terminator. Unix
uses a lf only. So when you view the files with a pc

High CPU load with Samba
Hello all,
We are running Samba 2.2.2 on Soalris 2.6, clients are Windows NT4.
Samba works fine for nearly all applications exept one were we
encounter very high CPU-load. This is when we access data using the
Version Manager librairy for Power Builder.
We do not find any errors in Samba log file. We tried to upgrade to
2.2.3a but it didn't seem any better.
I know it is a very particular

hosting library (ie. PVCS) on Samba
Hello.
I believe that I've done my due diligence in researching what info. is
currently available on this issue.
I have been jacking with this for days, & believe that I have tried all
possible solutions.
I am basically trying to move a [Merant] PVCS installation from an OS/2
file server to a SuSE/Samba file server.
This installation consists of 'standard' source archives,

Parent directory permissions changed when transferring contents.
I have a script that checks files out of PVCS into a temp directory (possibly with nested directories) and copies the contents of the temp directory to multiple servers. I want to retain the permissions on the individual files (which are retained in source control) but leave the permissions on the destination directories as they are. The temp directory and it's subdirectories get the default

Samba 2.07 AIX
We have several Samba servers, and a few running PVCS .
The group that manages, supports PVCS (Version 7.5.1 ) is having a
problem deleting files from Samba shares on an AIX Server version 5.2
They do not have a similar problem on 2 of our Solaris Servers, 2.8
The difference we see between the AIX server and the 2 Solaris Servers,
is the version of Samba. On The Solaris Servers Samba is version

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment:

Help: stemming and stem completion with package tm in R
Hi All
I came across a problem below when doing stemming and stem completion
with package tm in R. Word "mining" was stemmed to "mine" with
stemDocument(), and then completed to "miners"with stemCompletion().
However, I prefer to keep "mining" intact.
For stemCompletion(), the default type of completion is "prevalent",
which takes the most

How to enable stemming with default_op set to OP_NEAR
Hi All,
I know that from version 1.2.6, if default_op is OP_NEAR or OP_PHRASE then stemming of the terms is disabled, since positional information isn't indexed for stemmed terms by default. However, I would like to try using OP_NEAR as default_op with stemming because I think the near operator is somehow different from exact phrase. Then I wanna see how the search results looks with this

Error: arguments imply differing number of rows
I am simply trying to put 4 boxplots on the same plot, but I keep
getting the "arguments imply differing number of rows" error. Here, I
have two variables: a factor x of length 1762 (with 4 levels) and a
numeric variable y of length 1762. How is it that my arguments imply
differing numbers of rows?

arguments imply differing number of rows
4000:6000 gives you 4000, 4001, ..., 6000. I suspect you want
population= c(seq(4000, 6000, length=5), seq(3500, 4300, length=5),
seq(3000, 3200, length=5))

This has been addressed as part of the authentication system rewrite
towards 2.5.0.
You will be able to even do such things as defining a user who can
_only_ update metadata for a certain stream.

For loop to cycle through datasets of differing lengths
I have encountered this problem on several occasions and am not sure how to
handle it. I use for-loops to cycle through datasets. When each dataset is
of equal length, it works fine as I can combine the datasets and have each
loop pick up a different column, but when the datasets are differing
lengths, I am struggling. Here is an example:
A<-1:10
B<-1:15
C<-1:18
