Samba 2.2.7 Session setup fails with NetApp filer (F850).
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I would dearly like to access CIFs directories on a NetApp filer (850) with Linux/*ix SMB clients. Unfortunately, smbclient from Samba 2.2.7 fails with a session setup request tsitc> /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient //cbrnas01/Stan3$ -U stan3%PPPP added interface ip=10.0.100.252 bcast=10.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0 session setup failed: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad

Patching tcpdump-smb to deal with hyperlong packet reports
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing about to say that tcpdump-smb on our multi protocol network (IP, NetBEUI, and SNA) occasionally reports hyperlong packets that look to contain the data of other packets (see previous posting about this). When Mr Tridgells patches are applied to the latest tcpdump (3.4a6, the one on ftp.ee.lbl.gov) the results are the same. The one reply to my letter about

GVN pass: does global value numbering remove duplicate computations in loops?

This is exciting news. It sounds like it will find a lot of the interesting cases. > Note that we don't do full-on polynomial time equivalence finding. While it would be fun to play with such

NT4.0 + SP3 reports can't NetServerEnum from DMB using Samba
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to ask your help with a problem whereby 3 NT4.0 + Sservice Pack 3 servers frequently log (in their event lists) that the browsing service cannot get the list of domain resources (the reply to NetServerEnum2) from the master browser (when the boxes are functioning as backup browsers). The situation is :- . NT machines browsing on both NetBUEI and NetBT

Browsing automatic update
Hi, I've configured successfuly a Samba-LDAP PDC. When a Windows PC is up, I can see it in network neighbourhood but when it is down, I still see it in network neigbourhood. And the entry in browse.dat file still exists even the computer is down. Any suggestion ? -- Rapha?l Berghmans <rberghmans@arafox.com>

The answer is blowing in the WINS
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to ask your opinion on how many WINS and WINS proxies are necessary in a routed network. The questions are in the context of using the Samba 1.9.18 nmbd as a WINS or WINS proxy with MS Windows for Workgroups or MS Windows 95 clients. Is it A) 1 WINS, 0 WINS proxies (every host asks the WINS for NetBIOS names with Unicast) B) 1 WINS, n WINS proxies

flac -- exhaustive model search vs. -A <*>?
what does the exhaustive model search do? Does it try all of the functions listed under "-A" to find the 'best', i.e. bartlett, bartlett_hann, blackman, blackman_har- ris_4term_92db, connes, flattop, gauss(STDDEV), hamming, hann, kaiser_bessel, nuttall, rectangle, triangle, tukey(P), welch. Or is that something else? I've been using the -e option for a while in

[PATCH nbdkit] common: Improve pseudo-random number generation.
Currently we use non-cryptographically secure random numbers in two places, the error filter (to inject errors at random) and the random plugin. For this we have used either random_r or a home-brew-ish Linear Congruential Generator. Use of random_r is problematic on BSDs because it doesn't exist there. Use of the LCG is simply a bad choice. Replace both uses with a better quality and

blocking name diffusion within two subnets
Hello I administrate a samba server with two network cards. This server is visible and serve his shares succesfully on two differents subnets. Ports 137,138 & 139 (both tcp & upd) are filtered between those two subnets by cisco switches. The problem is that all my computers on the first subnet are visible from the second subnet in the network neigbourhood. Only their names are

strange trouble with Win2k
I am running Samba 2.2.4 on a Debian machine (2.2.5 is compiling right now), and I'm experiencing strange problems with Win2k-Clients in a domain with the Samba-server as PDC. The clients can join the domain, authenticate users to the Samba server and access shares, thats o.k. However, they do not seem to believe that they are in the domain. If I click on "Network Neigbourhood",

WINS and isolating groups
Hi guys, I'm planning a fileserver for around 12 small companies (two to five people each) who share one buidling/office and all IT resources. Since I'm not responsible or involved in the client support, I want to prevent the different companies from seeing each other's PCs through network browsing, for example, company A consists of Joe, Mary and Pete, and Company B consists of

My Documents on Win98 in domain not persistant
Hi, have created a domain and access to user dir is no problem, profile is created and all seem OK, but it isn't. When I try to change the path of My Documents on the local machines to their userdir on the server, I can do it but when I close the properties window and then look again I get the old entry and can't access it. Access by the neigbourhood icon works well. Home directory on
