"Not listening for calling name" error - huh?
Hi all, I have two samba machines running v1.9.18p4. When I try and list the shares on the second machine (calvin) fromn the first machine (hobbes) I get this: Session request failed (131,129) with myname=HOBBES destname=CALVIN Not listening for calling name Try to connect as another name (instead of HOBBES) You may find the -n option useful for this Any idea what this is trying to tell me?

Browsing across subnets - network star configuration

Samba WINS server and lost domain controllers
Hi all, I am using a samba WINS server for my Microsoft network that is split across 5 physical networks. For a long time, everything has worked fine, however recently we have had wierd problems with domain controllers "disappearing". Even with a primary or backup DC on the physical wire, workstations and other NT servers suddenly start complaining "a domain controller for DOMAIN

Browsing across subnets - some more problems
Hi all, I am still battling to get browsing across subnets to work. I just need some clarification on some issues. I understand the following things to be the case, please correct me if I am wrong: - Machines on a subnet will periodically announce their existance by broadcasting to everyone their identity - Other machines will hear these broadcasts, and add the machines to their browse lists. -

[LLVMdev] TableGen Hacking Help
Ok, this is really complicated. I need some TableGen experts to help here. I need a little help doing a final bit of tblgen hacking. I've hacked tblgen to handle patterns like this: let AddedComplexity = 40 in { def : Pat<(vector_shuffle (v2f64 (scalar_to_vector (loadf64 addr:$src1))), (v2f64 (scalar_to_vector (loadf64 addr:$src2))),

Slow Network performance with ArcView and Samba
Hi, We are experiencing a very slow network when loading files from the Samba server (Samba V1.9.18p4 on Digital Unix V4.0B). A file transfer of a 5 MB file from the samba server to a NT Workstation with FTP takes about 10 seconds. The transfer of the same file with using the NT-Explorer takes also about 10 seconds. The load of the same file (it is a tiff file) with a application called

Problem de mangling
Hi all ! I'm new on this mailing list... We have just installed samba v1.9.18p4. But we have problems with mangling of file names. We would like to preserve the case of windows files > 8 char. when copying files to the server. However, we want to keep 8.3 format files in lower case. The question is : how to configure all the

Print driver woes in 2.2.3a
Greetings, all I seem to run across more interesting issues with printing... Anyhow, by Samba (2.2.3a) print server (Sun Solaris 8) somehow forgot about all of its printer drivers. I went through the process of re-loading them from a Windows 2000 client machine using drivers downloaded fromn HP for all but our laserjet 4 printers. I was able to install the Windows 2000 drivers OK, but

samba blamed for network problems (help!)
Howdy folks: Hi. It's me again. I've posted before about browsing problems, etc. Here's the setup: An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30, samba 1.9.18p8) and ~20 win95 (OSR/2.1) clients. We used to have Netware 4.11 until the new PC/lan guy decided we didn't it any more (our old server now runs

SSH 2.2.0
Yo All! I have been playing with SSH 2.2.0 from www.ssh.com. I can not connect to openssh 2.2.1p1 using Ver 2 protocol from ssh Ver 2.2.0. Ver 1 works fine. See below for the debug output from both ends If I force hmac-md5 (-m hmac-md5) from the sender it works! The other 3 choices fail: hmac-sha1; hmac-md5-96; and none. I have no problem connecting to this openssh host (hobbes) from

Getting Samba 3 to communicate with Win2k3 ADS
I'm having a *terrible* time trying to get Samba 3 to communicate with my Windows 2003 Active Directory Server (the primary and only domain on my network). Basically this is what I'm trying to do: create a Linux File Server to replace my old WinNT 4 File Server. I would like it to show up under all my XP clients on network neighborhood just like the old server, with each account on my

The Smallest Asterisk Server Ever?
Hello all, Saturday night, after a couple of shots of bourbon, I realized that I had an old PC sitting in the garage that I could use as an Asterisk gateway if I just blew the dust off it and reloaded it with a modern Linux distribution. In my characteristically impulsive manner, I grabbed it and started cleaning it up so that I could put it in my office without my wife having a fit. The

Fwd: [networkupstools/nut] Hide 'Init SSL without certificate database' message for upsc (PR #1662)
Hello all, Here's a PR I want to ask community about: should NUT clients like upsc report (log!) or hide the infamous 'Init SSL without certificate database' message? On one hand, it is a reminder that the setup is insecure (plaintext protocol, might be in an externally provided tunnel but we don't know that). On another, it is fairly annoying and if it does clutter
