Compiling R on Sunos
I'm looking for some help in getting R to compile on Sunos. We run a
collection of Sunos and Solaris machines in the department here. I got
to compile on Solaris 2.5.1 using gcc 2.7.2.2. On my Sunos 4.1.3 (and
I've tried it on Sunos 4.1.4 as well) machines, it crashes during the
compile. I'm using gcc 2.8.1 on there. It gets to this point:
gcc -g -O2 -I../include

Roaming Profiles - the next step
Thanks to the enthuiastic help of Mr. Dan Shearer and the excellent
writings of John H. Terpstra (Samba-3 by Example) I have migrated an NT4
PDC to Samba 3.0.14a-2 on Fedora Core 4 (Cries of amazement)
The clients (XP, NT4WS, Win2K, 98 and 95) didn't notice the switch (once
I had made all the correct folders!)
My questions now are fine tuning and filling in gaps in my Windows
knowledge.

Xen3 on Etch - Rebooting when 2nd DomU started
Hi All,
Fairly new to Debian and Xen but I have a box running with lots of DomUs
under Xen2 and it is fine.
I have setup a new IBM eServer P4 and loaded Etch and loaded Xen3.
It runs up my first DomU beautifully but when I start my second DomU it
crashes the PC and reboots.
If I comment out the line in /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp
(network-script network-bridge)
It will run 2 DomUs
Have I run

Debian asterisk-bristuff
I apologise now if I have managed to completely misunderstand this whole
subject!
I've built a small PC and loaded Etch 4.0 from the netinst cd.
I did 'apt-get install asterisk-bristuff' which seemed to work
but, it doesn't seem to have installed any files/modules for zaptel?

I am using a billion hfc card
Any pointers?

Group Mappings
Samba 3.6.2
My Domain Admins, including root, don't get admin permissions on local PCs.
My Windows 7 clients can join the domain but when I look in the
Administrators group it shows the sid for the Domain Admins group (RID =
512) and the icon has a question mark
net groupmap list seems OK
Any ideas where to look next?
TIA
Simon

DTrace vs truss
G''Day Folks,
I''ve finally typed up my classic DTrace demo, which I use to introduce
people to DTrace (I delivered this at SOSUG#1),
http://www.brendangregg.com/DTrace/dtracevstruss.html
Here I create a fault and show the difficulty in analysing it using
previous tools. Then I compare the impact of analysing the problem
using both DTrace and truss. DTrace wins (a lot!).

namespace trouble
I am having some trouble with dovecot 1.2.12 and some namespace issues, or at
least that's what I think is the issue. I setup a virtual mailhosting using
mysql and postfix. I can receive email and send email without a problem, but
when I use mutt to sign in to dovecot, I can't list any Folders, it see's
INBOX but it doesn't see any mail. I generally try to not post my problems

SSL strangeness with dovecot-lda in 2.0.4
Hello,
First of all, thank you for developing a fantastic IMAP server!
I've just upgraded to 2.0.4 (from 2.0.1) and when I try to run
/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver (either directly from the commandline, or from
within the MTA) I get the following error:
doveconf: Fatal: Error in configuration file
/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf: ssl enabled, but

Samba slow to Windows clients
Hi All,
I have just built a new P 4 1.8 RH8.0 Server rpmed up to Samba 2.2.7-2
It works GREAT for smbmounted shares on my linux boxes and sssllllooooowwww
on my Windows clients (2K and 98)
Specifically, moving a 15 Mb file over my 100 MBit network with one hub
takes
around 20 sec for the smbmounted share on a Linux box and 8 minutes on a
Win2K/98 box.
Any ideas?

Vampire and Capital Letters
I find Linux to be a nightmare if usernames have capital letters.
Some old Windows PDCs that we are vampiring have usernames with capital
letters.
AFAIK you can't change a windows username
Is there a way of telling the vampire to make all usernames lowercase as
it imports them?
Can I use pdbedit or any other tool to make them lowercase?
At the moment I am changing /etc/passwd and the

Slowness problems with Samba 3.0.1, Solaris, and Clearcase
Hello --
I recently installed Samba 3.0.1 on our Solaris 8 servers (as well as
our RedHat servers) and I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on
a few things.
We are using Samba in conjunction with Clearcase for our software
developers and because of that, we have oplocks turned off (also level2
oplocks = no as well). We are authenticating to our ADS server, but

measuring sleep time in synchronization objects
Hi,
I am fairly new to DTrace, and wanted to ask something regarding
synchronization objects.
I have a multithreaded C++ program in which I use semaphores (POSIX version)
for synchronization. I was interested in using DTrace to figure out the
total time for which each thread in my application sleeps, blocked on a
semaphore, i.e., as a result of sem_wait() call. In order to measure this, I

Newbie trying to set up rails with MySQL

Please pardon my newness -- I''m just getting started with rails, and
I''m having some difficulty getting it set up with MySQL.
I am able to get the basic ruby server running (script\server). When I
created a new page (using script/generate controller about index), I
am not able to navigate to the new page, and Ruby either crashes or

Fax
Hi all !
Let's say you have about 6 small different companies sharing the same E1
/ Asterisk server, and every company needs its own fax number. Since
they don't really need fax machines, what would be the most
cost-effective way to handle this (keeping fax-privacy at its best) ?
Is there a way to configure Hylafax or sth & one modem behind an ATA-186

upgraded to 3.6.2
Hi Folks,
I have upgraded my very stock Ubuntu 8.04.4 running 3.0.28a to 3.6.2 by
compiling in place as per these notes:
http://www.jeremycole.com/blog/2009/12/01/upgrade-samba-3-0-28a-to-3-4-3-on-ubuntu-8-04-lts/
Worked a treat - big respect to the team.
However, I am struggling a little with group mapping
net groupmap list used to show the half dozen or so groups but now it

Hi all,
How do I config Asterisk so when the directory cmd is used, the name of
the found entry comes from a pre-record gsm file instead of being spelled
letter by letter?
